The Best Version Of Ourselves
If I could make one wish for the 2022 graduating class of RHS it would be that they somehow remember the feelings they felt when their journey through the public school system of Ridgewood was finally complete. I remember. It was a feeling of bonhomie that lasted for months. With friends like the ones I had graduated with, I felt like I could go off to college and then succeed in whatever profession or trade I chose. This was the version of myself that I intended to keep in mind and recollect when I needed a good bracing or pick-me-up.
Of course, all good things come to an end. The strongest feelings associated with the legendary RHS graduation ceremony were bound to fade.
The graduation ceremony eventually becomes another touchstone we use for the rest of our lives to measure authenticity and the significance of milestones in our lives. Somedays the lessons learned during K-12 are harder to recall than other heartfelt experiences which come later.
The only other thing I would say to new graduates is: your time is now your own. Make sure to do what works for you, not something to please other people. Be it the major you choose in college, or whether to go to college at all, this mistake-prone decision is yours. If it starts to go sideways you will not be alone in having goofed this first of many judgements you’ll be asked to make in your life. Roll with it. Then be able to laugh about it because when you get to be my age it will appear a little comical that you felt such angst and regret. I don’t downplay these emotions or any travails you will go through, they are real and sometimes hurt for a long time. Do yourself a favor by attempting at least one thing in Life in your own authentic manner and be glad for that. Peace.

The Man From Daisy
As I waited for the crosstown M86 bus to have lunch at my folks place...I turned around and notice a flowered dress on a mannequin in a store front window and I could see people passing in the reflection which I thought was pretty cool and so I shot this into the glass as a man quickly passed by.
Shot on 86th street just east of Lexington looking south with north facing reflection.
Time 1145am.

Montauk Point Lighthouse, commissioned in 1792 by President George Washington. It's the first lighthouse to be built in the State of New York, and the fourth oldest lighthouse in the country. The walls are 7 feet thick!

Around The Village
When I was in elementary school at Orchard there was a town wide effort to raise funds and awareness about Lester Stable's renovation and future purpose (see image). It was exciting for everyone and Ridgewood raised an enormous amount of private money to fund this new space into our community.
This morning I was shocked to see the Village spending another $759K on the restoration of Schedler house without any published future use and no 7 acre plan in place with the SHPO (also no statement of clarity as promised in 2021). While I do support the house, I am just so confused as to why everything with this project is so expensive, secretive and delayed (we bought the land in 2008/2009).
When this house is done we will need to find a use that fits with our town and reduces the operational/maintence expense. Anyone have any ideas?

There Are People
There are people in Russia
Who support Vladimir Putin
And the form he has taken
In an obscene and unnecessary war;
Perhaps they believe his claims
That he is fighting Nazis;
Perhaps they like the idea
That Russia will grow and rise again
To become what it once was
Under the god-like Stalin.
There are people in the United States
Who support Donald Trump
And the faction of the Republican Party under his sway
In their absurdist claims and prognostications
That THEY are "WE the People";
Perhaps they like the idea
That the United States will grow and rise again
To become what it once was
Under God...but
Whose God?
What is God?
Which God?
Nobody knows.
Whose God will bless America?
