Reach Out & Touch Someone
Reach Out & Touch Someone was a corny commercial from the 1970s produced for the Bell Telephone Company. I’ll spare you the story of the breakup and mergers of our telephone system as it would take too much space.
Though the message: Reach Out And Touch Someone rings loud and clear some fifty years later.
A study published July 11 in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that people often underestimate how much their friends and old acquaintances appreciate hearing from them.
I’m not sure phone remains the best choice but a text, an email, or an old-fashioned US postal letter are good ideas. You could also post on one of their social media profiles. It all depends upon the person and whether or not they answer their phone or check messages & email regularly. The surge in Robo-calls has made many phone numbers unreachable.
The suggestion here is to reach out and make a few connections. Don’t worry about the ones who don’t respond. When you let a friend know that you’re thinking of them overcoming it more than makes up for any fears of rejection.
If you would like to reach out to this Ezine and give us your two cents we would be honored to hear from you.

Hey Paul,
I read your piece on a Long Gone Village this morning and I concur completely. When I am speaking with friends about our younger days, I like to refer to our days in the village as "Old Ridgewood." There are so many memories of a village that was in a way self-contained , self-sustaining, and seemingly self-sufficient. It seemed that everything you could possibly need could be found "Uptown" Local market stores (my grandfather opened his Metropolitan market in 1912) hardware stores, Woolworths, Drapkins, Sealfons, McHughs, Merrihews for kids clothes, two record stores, Winchells for gifts, gas stations with mechanics, car dealerships, the bowling alley and the Village diner. Remember Al and Harry's, and Cobbs and Purdues sporting goods, pet shops, the paint store, the hardware stores and the appliance store on Ridgewood Ave. Of course, Warner Theater when in the summer a big sign said 'It's cool inside" when most homes didn't have air conditioning. There were a few restaurants, but not many. As kids we lived at Graydon Pool with our moms telling us to be back by dinner time. I still remember the big steam engines pulling into the Ridgewood station and loading their coal cars from Young and Bordic. I remember how big the recreation league basketball games were during the winter and it seemed everyone played. It was a great adventure to walk over to the strange world of the West side of town to play at GWMS. In the spring everyone played RBA baseball.
In high school we actually had after the game hops after home football games on Saturday afternoon were everyone showed up in the "girls" gym to socialize while a local garage band played all their best covers, then out to the Fireplace for a burger and fries. In our Jr. high days we would be out playing all sorts of street games in our neighborhood as well as great games of kick the can or capture the flag in the evenings during the warm weather months. No organized sports except RBA baseball and Jr.football. Kids made their own fun walking down to their friends' house to knock on the door and ask if they wanted to come out and play. There is so much more and I have just touched on a few memories, but obviously so much has changed that in some ways I feel sad about the loss and only wish that people today could experience what Ridgewood truly was as an example of real Americana.
I included a great picture of RHS cica 1926 from an aerial view taken from an airplane ...
Not a drone. Ha!
All the best,
Jeff

Sunday Sunny Sunday
When Living with Depression It takes some serious navigation of the Mind to steer through off days and when I write that's when the good or bad feelings get turned loose Well I got up on this past Sunday and picked up a pen and the good feelings were in the head so I wrote this to thank all the kind hearted friends who always have a kind word for the day days
Sunday sunny Sunday Gonna wake up with a smile
Grab a cup of coffee and hang out for a while
Yesterday was cloudy mood was damp and gray
Today the sky is sunny say Good bye to yesterday
Sunday sunny Sunday Gonna call up an old friend
I have a new mission there's a fence that I must mend
Words I've said in anger need an apology
Things I may have said when I wasn't me
Look inside myself when things aren't going right
When I'm so confused I can' tell day from night
Fight my way through the darkness back to the place I know
The love of all my friends is what makes me go
Sunday sunny Sunday Thank you everyone
You are all the reason I finally feel the sun
Warming up the feelings that are deep inside my soul
You people are the reason I get back to being whole
Its funny how this was a continuous thought that went from the heart to the head to the hand The 3 H Club Thanks all my good friends for Being there. Cheers!
