In Memory Of RHS Classmates
The most popular section of the Maroons Online website are the pages dedicated to the memory of our classmates. We have kept it sparse for now. We print the names by class and the date of their passing. Nothing much else except for those recognized for their inclusion in the Ridgewood High School Athletic Hall Of Fame or the Ridgewood High School Sports Supreme Roll Of Honor of US Armed Forces Personel.
As the web hosting technology evolves the list of special merit next to each name likely will expand. When the Arrow Yearbooks become digitized we might even include pictures.
I say “when” the Arrow Yearbooks become digitized because I am fascinated by the possibilities of students and alumni re-issuing and re-purposing the words and photos of the Arrow Yearbooks and the high school literary journals in new & creative ways. Whether it’s the art, history, or literary aspects which attract attention initially, makes no difference. When the insights of this treasure trove is finally revealed it will move people in as many ways as they are capable of comprehending.
Unfortunately, all these books are currently sitting in locked closets and cabinets. I am not looking to blame anyone. Though it goes without saying, we all are going to be the lesser if these artifacts are not properly preserved.
Who is going to take the lead and save the Arrow Yearbooks for posterity? There are so many non-profits in Ridgewood it’s hard to imagine that not one has stepped forward to date. Maybe this will be a wake up call.

“It’s Alright, Ma, I’m Only Bleeding”
—Bob Dylan song title
No, it’s not alright. Really, it isn’t. And Cheap Trick’s “We’re All Alright” is all wrong.
