RHS Graduation Photos
Here are the RHS graduation photos we have collected from Arrow Yearbooks and the Heritage Collection at the Ridgewood Public Library.
As with too many things, the memory was more nostalgia for a past you survived than the reality of the place.—George Friedman
I recall my graduation day as a long one. First the graduation ceremony, then off to dinner at a country club. After that we came home for a quick change into comfortable clothes and then we were off to BFMS where our parents posted pictures of us as babies and decorated the gym. After our final goodbyes to classmates we drove down to the Jersey Shore, forsaking the more traditional sunrise swim at Graydon Pool as being too cold. I have two pictures from this thirty hour whirlwind. There were fewer cameras in those days, plus an interminable wait to get your pictures developed. No small wonder we have a dearth of photos. Though it won’t stop me from alerting you about our desire to collect them from all the RHS graduating classes. We value your thoughts and opinions on this subject, as well as our clarion call to digitize all of the RHS Arrow Yearbooks.

July 31, 2022 - Jackson Heights
Exit 82
I headed out to Jackson Heights this morning for one thing and one thing only - a beef empanada - I have a place - so good - it's a hole in the wall - I don't know its name and I've been going for years...I just know where it is and as I made my way back to the number 7 train licking my lips...I saw these covered steps to the 82nd street station and a sole passenger coming down in the reflection of the glass outside a Columbian bakery - remember...cash only.
Shot looking east with westerly facing reflection on 82nd street just south of Roosevelt Avenue.
Time 1030am.

Warm Chickpea Salad
Grab a few of the zillions of cherry tomatoes that all ripen over the course of 24 hours. Slice in half and toss into a pan with a small glug of olive oil, a small sliced onion, a dash of salt, and some spices. Today I used Zatar, but Herbes Provençal, an Italian Blend, or whatever is near at hand will suffice. Let the onion soften a bit while the tomatoes release their juices, medium heat should be fine. When the onions are done to your liking, dump in a can of drained chickpeas, turn off the heat and let them warm while you set out the plates.
As an alternative, one may mix it all up an hour ahead of time and let the flavors work their charms, no heat required - serve at room temperature.

Rock Hound
Found this little beauty while up near the Pictured Rocks lakeshore a couple of weeks ago. It’s a piece of jacobsville sandstone, which is the primary material that forms the Pictured Rocks cliffs.
Can’t put this in a polishing tumbler because it’s such a soft rock it would disintegrate. All it took was some light hand sanding, a quick spray of a special acrylic, and some hardware. It’s a mini pictured rock.
