Ridgewood’s Teacher Tributes
The Maroon could probably could produce an entire web site of Ridgewood Public School Teacher Tributes. We’ve begun to scratch the surface of this subject. Today we added the late principal of GWMS George Neville to our Tribute page.
Give us time. We’ll keep gathering the words of gratitude and affection, then see if we can’t create a memorable as well as sustainable platform. (***We started this collection of quick tributes and one-liners about teachers.***)
It’s a wonder to me a motivated group of RHS alumni haven’t offered to tackle the challenge of overseeing & organzing graduation photos & athletic team photos, plus the digitization of all the RHS Arrow yearbooks.
Looks like the team of alumni from the ranks of Maroons Online will have to pick up the slack. Someday, somebody will see the importance history plays in our lives, how history can benefit our decision-making by offering us models to build new institutions and to operate our current ones with a bit more aplomb. Not to mention providing concrete responses to the age old quesion that invariable comes up in most every civic meetings, “How was this problem solved previously?”

Rock Hound
No matter how many you’ve caught before, or how big, or whether you’re a tournament fisherman, an 18 inch smallmouth is always an impressive fish. A 21 incher is a trophy, but an 18 incher isn’t far behind. What a fight!
The stretch of the Wisconsin River we fished yesterday was the very first stretch of the river I ever paddled when my family moved from New Jersey to Wisconsin back in 1976. What a culture shock that move was, and it was this river that kept me sane.
In the left of this photo, in the background, there is a very large rock in the river. There are several other large rocks that the photo doesn’t show. The eddies below those rocks are great places to fish, but it’s tough to get a cast in when you’re paddling a canoe because the water around the rocks is pretty swift, and you have to pay attention to paddling, not casting.
The best way to fish those eddies when you're in a canoe is to make a controlled crash onto the upstream side of the rock without capsizing, and then step out onto the rock and cast from there. My late brother Rob and I used to paddle this stretch together, and he hated it when I crashed into the rock and then told him to get out and fish. I loved it, not only because the fishing was so good, but because I loved messing with my brother. Miss those times, Rob. I had a premonition that you were watching us yesterday, and that you were wishing you could reach down and cause us mischief as we fished below those rocks.

You’re Saying It Wrong
And it's Return of Confusables on our latest podcast! A listener asked for a recap of the ol' lie/lay problem, which launched us into other not-quite-as-obvious-but-also-confusing words that people mix up. It can be a royal (not regal!) PITA keeping them straight!
