Lawrence Ferlinghetti wrote as “the contemporary man of the streets speaking out the truths of common experience, often to the reflective beat of the jazz musician.”

Jens Larson, RHS Class of 1977. We were neighbors and went through the entire Ridgewood K-12 together. We both went to good colleges and then surprised our friends and families by choosing careers in the Arts. I learned to be a restaurateur and Jens ran away to the Circus. After each of us give it our all in our first careers, our second careers were more conventional. I become a technology consultant and Jens become a Mathematics teacher.
Jens is now involved in an encore career in Arizona with the Phoenix Youth Circus Arts
The Phoenix Youth Circus Arts “uses the fun and creative world of circus arts to teach skills that build the mind, body, and self-esteem in children and youth of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Through the learning and performing of individual and group circus acts, students develop healthy bodies, confident spirits, and valuable capacities for cooperation and trust in a challenging, but non-competitive environment.”
Jens does not teach the Chair Balancing Act he used to do in the Circus but he does put his RHS letter man skills in Gymnastics to good use. You can call or email him to hear more.

September mourn.
The summer came and went and the Wonder Wheel remains frozen in the same position it was when I came out here in April - sleep now my giant...spring awaits.

Wish Tree Community Art Project
The theme of this year's Convocation was HOPE, and the art installation was designed around a Wishing Tree, an idea originally created in Lam Tsuen, Hong Kong in 1770, and more recently promoted by Yoko Ono in the interactive art installation entitled the Imagine Wish Tree project featured in several locations around the world, including the MoMA.
Art teachers at every district school created a bulletin board featuring each school’s special yarn-wrapped branch -- as seen in the video below. Wishes from the teachers and students wishes hang in each art installation.
