Creating An Age Inclusive Future
As Chip Conley reminds us, “There is no shortage of knowledge, but there is a scarcity of wisdom.” The biggest challenge of our time: cultivating and harvesting wisdom.
I would take this one step further and say the biggest challenge of our time is taking our collective wisdom to create an age inclusive society. There needs to be action coupled with the wisdom before we can know what it is we have.
This is why I am asking for Interns to work remotely on the Maroons Online website. You must be an RHS alumna or alumnus & 18 years of age or older. No experience with WordPress necessary. You may apply yourself or as part of a group of 2 to 5 people. If you are experienced and want to lead a group or act as a consultant, you are welcome to join us.
To apply: send me an email. Tell me why this might be of interest to you and how much you would like to be involved. It’s OK to be an observer until you find your niche. All applications will be responded to.
The Internship will have three stages. You may participate, or be an observer in any or all of the stages. We will be doing them at first in order then individuals and groups will be encouraged to work on their own at their own pace.
Part 1
Review the current Maroonsonline web site for errors, inconsistencies & ommissions. Suggest corrections and send them to me via email. For instance, many of the RHS Classes in the In Memory Of section need updating. Suggest ways to keep this section updated. The same is true of the Graduation photos.
Part 2
Organize the existing features which were on the old site and need to be added to the new. For instance, the Teacher Tributes. We have collected only a small sample and very few recent other than Laura Fleming. Offer suggestions as to how this could be organized and improved to include more recent teachers, principals, and superintendents. We also have all of the Ridgewood Public Schools which need to have their histories updated. Not to mention team photos for every sports team & club.
Part 3
Suggest new features and show how they might look by building your own website. You will need to create a WordPress account to work on this task.
Well, there it is. An Age-Inclusive project to help us all usher in a brighter tomorrow.
Thank-you!

The Roundabout
It's fascinating to watch all the people and cars move in unison as the 5 different traffic light that surround Columbus Circle switch from red to green - an urban synchronized swim of sorts.
Shot on 59th street just east of Broadway looking west.
Time 830am.

NEW TO SHOP!
Super excited about these new Horn Servers! At 11” long x 3 1/4” wide they work great with most salad bowls and trays. Each set of two spoons is sculpted from sustainably harvested cattle horn that is a byproduct of the meat and leather industry. They are then polished using coconut oil to give them a beautiful luster.
I sorted them into 5 separate color groups to ensure that you are able to receive the colors that you like best. Which color would you choose?

Rock Hound
A generous friend gave me a small toolbox full of small slabs of agate, petrified wood and other rocks that I can’t identify. She found the box at a garage sale and bought it for one dollar, and because she knew I was a rockhound, she gave the box to me.
The little slab pictured here was in the box. It measures about 2 inches x 3 inches, and it looks like an ice cream cone! It is relatively soft, and can be scratched with a metal screwdriver. It has some translucence.
I had no idea what it was, so I submitted it to one of my rock identification groups for some input. You always get lots of different opinions from well-meaning rockhounds, but the general consensus is that this is probably a slab of opal, perhaps Utah lace opal.
I’m tempted to drill a little hole in the top and run a cord through it was wear it as a pendant, but it’s kind of big for that. But then again, who cares. It would be a great way to show it off.

At The End Of The Third Day
At the end of the third day, suddenly,
In the Death of Ivan Ilyich,
"some force" strikes Ivan in the chest and side.
It pushes him through the death sack and into the presence of a bright light;
He feels the sensation of being in a railway car that you think is moving forward, but suddenly realize is moving back…
Lately, I’m Ivan,
Sitting, working, thinking
I’m going one way
When in reality I’m going another:
The Red Line
The IRT
The Dynamite D
Anytime of Day or Night
No matter what year
I throw my heart and soul
Into teaching real people
Only to be reined in
By the DataMeisters
Tending to their
Exotic, imaginary flock,
I listen to people displaced
From the Ukraine
Missing peaceful chats with their neighbors
Rolled under the tank treads
Of a narcissist who pretents to be dressed
In the people’s clothing.
I try to walk forward,
Head held high
Chin up
Holding the hands of my loved ones
Holding the gaze of the students trying
Their best
But hammered with the rain
From people driven minute by minute to justify their own existence,
Turning toast into a meal no one can pronounce,
Sucking the life out of
Flowers
Trying…
Trying…
Trying
To bloom

Sleep-Ins At RHS
The Sleep-ins/Enrichment mornings started in 2012. The students begin their day at 8:45AM and the teachers have a unique and unprecedented opportunity when they are all free at the same time to meet and discuss topics of their choice. If you were to walk into the building, you would see teachers clustered in various classrooms discussing everything from a great new book to (Social Emotional Learning) SEL to the benefits of later start times. It has been a win-win! We started with an occasional Wednesday but now have two Fridays each month designated as "Enrichment Days" on the school calendar.
We are working on a new page to highlight the progress of this noble endeavor:
