Cybersecurity Skills Shortage
Given the sad state of vigilance, lax cybersecurity practices, and outright breaches in the Village of Ridgewood & adjoining organizations, it should come as no surprise that a recent report from the Cybersecurity firm Fortinet claims that 80% of current breaches nationwide are due to organizations inability to attract and retain cybersecurity professionals.
The local poster child for this sort of ineptitude is the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA). They have turned a deaf ear to repeated warnings about the insecure state of their website and a breach which has existed since 2018. You’d think a group of well educated individuals when confronted with a pattern of complaints would at minimum try to find out what the facts might be. They never once have asked for evidence to support the allegations. Instead, they trust the vague explanations of their own trustee’s marketing company that all is well.
Can you see the conflict of interest involved here? One person on the board donates a server in 2015 and remains the final arbiter as to whether it conforms to any reasonable cybersecurity best practices and even if it still has the ability to protect the database of alumni names and addresses it contains.
The RHSAA Board of Trustees needs to spend a little less time exaggerating their own resumes and a take a moment to consider this truly gross example of cronyism and ignorance. They might come to the same conclusion as those who believe it’s high time to implement term limits for RHSAA Trustees. It’s also time to quit talking about replacing the single, aged machine they have long relied upon for their website and do it!

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Garber Square & West Ridgewood Ave. was closed when a truck’s air brakes locked and the driver attempted to turn around due to the height limit of the underpass. The roadway was shut down for over an hour, beginning at 8 a.m. this morning. Ridgewood PD responded to the scene and the truck was towed by All Points towing service. No injuries occurred and the road has been reopened.

It is time tested
The same crucial message holds true everyday
Gratitude is the simple brain adjustment to search for that which you are grateful for
not that which is missing in your life .
Easy to say
Easy to miss
Take a little time today to pause and write.

Rock Hound
Found a Wookie in a rock, I think. At first I thought it was a sphinx, but then it looked more like a wookie. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I should have stuck with sphinx.

How Do We Learn
How do we learn? Do we learn by condemnation with no chance to redeem ourselves? Do we learn by bowing to a set of arbitrary consequences applied with inequity? Do we learn by giving in to circumstances that we feel in our hearts are unfair?
We learn from the passions ignited by our senses.... We learn by the fires we see lifting up our mentors....We learn in the time we spend freely wondering...what brought us here? What keeps us strong? What floats us up? What helps to keep us from the memory of everything we've done wrong, everything that drags us down, everything that drowned our hopes and dreams and ambitions?
We learn of truth and beauty:
"When old age shall this generation waste,
Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe
Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say’st,
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”
So saith the bear...what buoys us up...keeps us off the shrinking shore...
