Greatness Never Fades
When I first heard about the RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame (RHS HOF) I said to myself, “this is the best project ever undertaken by RHS Alumni.” It belongs in a Hall Of Fame of its own!
You see greatness never fades, it's just waiting for the light to shine on it once again, for new generations to be exposed.
The founders just might have had the above quote in mind.
The RHS HOF didn’t happen overnight. It had its own fits and starts. Though since the first cohort of inductees were announced in 2004 they haven’t missed a beat. Every two years more feats of athletic greatness are revealed and celebrated, not even Covid completely shut down their progress.
The RHS HOF is not about saluting athletes as the best of all-time. There is no reason to compare the generations and wonder if Becky Deetz would do as well as today’s high jumpers. She would. Or if Paul Arogoni could hit the curve ball thrown by today’s young, strong arms. He would.
The RHS HOF wasn’t created to answer hypothetical questions like this. Each athlete was the best in their own time. The founders of the RHS HOF leave the heated discussions about who is the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) to punters like me who just enjoy witty repartee.
The RHS HOF does literally line the walls of the main gym at RHS, and is featured online prominently at Maroons Online. The class of 2022 has been announced. We will start featuring them each issue once the Digital Printing of the latest inductees is complete. Tim Boucher, RHS 1988, is working on the montages of each athlete.
We’ll soon have all the details on how to reserve your seat for the 2022 Inductees banquet on November 5th.

The Billy Hayes
Everyone has there own way of jumping over a puddle - this guy didn't break stride and basically just ran across it - for your information...I like to do what I call the "Billy Hayes" where I leap with arms out and stop for just a second above the puddle like that final scene in the film Midnight Express.
Shot on Spring street just east of Lafayette looking west.
Time 10am.

Tales From The Wood…
Ughhhh....
I try not to editorialize too much and I favor whatever is in our town's best interest…
But what's it gonna be? … another Bank, Restaurant or... Bank..?
(Btw.. This would make an AMAZING location for a great restaurant. Across from the Post Office which closes at 4:30 AND Van Neste Square; just up from Warner BowTie... ample parking around the corner where they're proposing a new park next to Ben and Jerry's...
It would help, in my opinion.. shift some much needed commerce east on Ridgewood Ave. Which has always been a little top heavy... in favor of my beloved Westside..)
Just my 2 cents..
