Annnouncement:
The Harry Ahearn Scholarship was established in the early 1990s by RHS alumni to continue the legacy of American Studies history teacher Harry Ahearn. He was affectionately known as “Uncle” Harry by his former students. He passed away in 1991.
Betsy Golden, RHS 1979, led the efforts to form this scholarship and remains the caretaker to this day. She has all the essays submitted over the last 35 years. Sadly, some years there were no people who submitted.
Applicants needed only to submit a two-page description of an imaginary dinner with the historical figure of their choice. According to Betsy, for over twenty years her team received outstanding submissions, but they have had none for the past four or five years.
Given this background I believe it behooves us all to apply some 21st century techniques to restore the luster of the original Harry Ahearn Scholarship award. Tell your children, tell your friend’s children, and explain why a 20th century legacy can still be an asset in the 21st century.
Entries can be sent to Mark Ferreri, RHS 1989

Macky’s New York
March 14, 2021 - Union Square
The angel of the Square.
I was dusting off some residue from last night's bender when I found myself leaning up against the cigarette stand on 14th - as the owner of the kiosk came out with his broom to whisk me away...I shot this with angel wings.
Shot against the metal wall of the kiosk on University place at 14th looking north.
Time 4pm.

Alumnus At Work: Paul Cortelessi, RHS 1979
A good day.
Cooked a standard Irish dinner for 45 at the fire station. 28 pounds of corned beef. A beet and onion salad to start with a veggie soup to round out the offerings. The pressed Reuben’s were popular.
Congratulations to @RidgewoodHS juniors on their @NationalHistory documentary profiling Sir Walter Evans' investigative reporting on #thalidomide. These regional qualifiers head to the @NJNHD competition in May!
RHS-TV: Jeopardy
They have a category for Famous Alumni. It’s a Pip! I wish we television technology had been available when I attended RHS.
