Hearts Of Gold
The beauty of paying no fealty to anyone is that you can speak truth to power. If Maroons Online took money from anyone, for example the local educational non-profits, there would be censorship of topics like this one. Count on it.
Fortunately, this is not the case and as long as we remain respectful we can speak our minds. I believe that is what used to be called “The American Way” of doing things and was part of a larger image we mutually held to be true called “The American Dream.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote: “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. One should, for example, be able to see that things are hopeless yet be determined to make them otherwise.”
If you haven’t been following today’s topic, the jist of it is that two 70-something Rock n Rollers have removed their catalogs from the Spotify music & podcast distribution platform. Let me say that I am keeping my Spotify account and I also support the protests of Neil Young & Joni Mitchell. They are taking a stand against the disinformation contained in Spotify podcasts, specifically Joe Rogan.
Don’t we all want fairness and truth? This is what Neil & Joni are asking for. They have voiced their opinion against the misinformation taking down our society. I don't think that was such a big ask.

Raviolis
My great Grandmother was well known for her raviolis.
Hers tended to make use of an older hen, one that had slowed down on the egg production. We always maintained a different relationship with our chickens, so none ended up in the pot.
Today we modified her standard recipe a bit, but other than swapping in fresh wonton wrappers for her hand rolled sheets of pasta, I’m certain that she would have recognized the origin.
For the stuffing, start with up a mound of fresh spinach or a bag of frozen. Steam until tender, wring out all the water you can, chop finely. Take a handful of parsley, trim away the stems, chop finely and add to the spinach. Do the same with some sausage cooked in your normal fashion (during the winter months we bake them). Toss in an egg, a few glops of nice ricotta and enough grated parmigiana & ground pepper to give the mixture a flavor you enjoy. A dash of nutmeg is not out of the question.
Take your wonton wrappers (shhhhh, don’t tell Nonna), place a heaping teaspoon of the filling slightly off center, moisten the edges, fold over, and seal. Cover with a towel as you make the rest.
Boiling salted water for 3-4 minutes, sauce as you prefer.
Perfect for a cold Sunday dinner.

I wish I was a headlight
on a southbound train.
I’d shine my light
'till the Alabama rain.

The Warm Up
Each morning, 5:00 a.m.
I crunch my way to the car
Swing the book bag in,
Darkness,
Find the hole for
My coffee mug,
Blind.
Down the hill
Lights on snow, animal tracks,
Right turn, acceleration
Awareness breathes
And mile turns to dark mile
Lit by headlight beams.
Occasionally I switch off
My brights, even if the oncoming traffic does not,
Or when they do, I am sometimes oblivious to my responsibility...
The white road goes on -
What are my plans?
What were my dreams?
How do I keep doing this
Darkness to dawn,
After dawn
After dawn?
I find myself forgetting anxious questions
The sick bloom of a florescent room
The antiseptic screen
Injecting information I hope to impart
Part knowledge,
Part hope,
Part folly,
Part dope.
Peace
