Counting The Freight Cars
When you were stuck at the Hohokus railroad crossing while a freight train was passing all you could do was count the freight cars. We counted and marveled at the names of the railroad lines from all over the country.
I understand that counting cars will only be occurring going to the east side of town after a decision was made to make the Hohokus Hill one-way (downhill).
This change will also make it harder to offer a lift to a fellow commuter. I can remember many times my mother or later on myself, giving a ride to a tired commuter as they faced the steps of the Hohokus Hill. It was usually only a short ride but on a hot summer night or any time when it rained, it was highly welcome gesture of neighborliness. When you were chauffeuring a neighbor up the hill you were faultless in their eyes. You could have broken their living room window with a baseball that afternoon and likely would have gotten off scot-free after giving them a free taxi ride. It was an arduous walk on a good day and most of the people might have had another stretch of walking to complete after the hill.
This is not to say people won’t be offering lifts anymore to commuters on their way home. It will simply be harder to tell if they really could use one. It was easy to roll down one’s window at the bottom of the hill and make a kind gesture with a simple wave of your hand. Some people you knew well would simply get in. No words needed to be expressed, only a thank you and have a good night.

My Brass Future
I was taking a break from the cheese shop when I tried to take a photo of commuters passing by in the grated brass side of a train information kiosk when I looked to the left and was shocked to see the 10 year older me with beard and bushy eye brows staring right back at me...the look on my face is both excited to be alive and concerned cause if this brass wall really does show the future then I will still be wearing a red cheese coat and I will have only one bushy grey eye brow which is even scarier than two.
If you wanna see the 10 year older you...come to the east passage just across from the east ramp and hope the wall gives you a fair set of eyebrows.
Time 1030am.

Juneteenth
Our New Federal Holiday!
Juneteenth is the 11th federal holiday and was approved with overwhelming support in Congress. It emerged as a local holiday in Texas that celebrated the date in 1865 when Union Gen. Gordon Granger informed slaves in Galveston that they were free pursuant to the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation that liberated slaves in Confederate states.
