Lack Of Progress: LSST
It has been almost eighteen months since the district agreed to examine the issue of a Later School Start Time (LSST). We have followed Board of Ed meetings, listened to discussions, attended ineffectual Alternative Schedules Task Force committee meetings, filled out surveys, and read Dr. Gorman's communications, including one letter that promised to make a recommendation about LSST in April 2022, but we haven't seen much progress.
The NJ Legislature is moving forward with legislation to mandate this change. High-performing peer school districts are shifting start times for this September. Conversations have been taking place in our community for eight years. Administrators, teachers, parents, students, coaches, athletic directors, crisis counselors, pediatricians, and Dr. Gorman (as RHS Principal) have all been involved in LSST discussions.
It's not too late for September!
Mr. Nyhuis has workable schedules for an 8:30 am to 3:05 pm school day at the high school. The elementary school schedule does not have to change. The survey results should not be the deciding factor, given the poorly worded questions, ambiguity, and lack of access for non-English speaking parents. The district can and should make some key decisions and implement this change in September.
What YOU Can Do
We have heard from many community members – parents AND students – who want this change and are disappointed with the lack of progress. Time is running out for September.
Please email Dr. Gorman and the Board of Education trustees ahead of Monday's Board of Ed meeting to express your support for a LSST. (Click here for email addresses.) At a minimum, ask that our administrators provide an update at Monday's meeting.
Please tune in to the next Board of Education meeting at 7:00 pm THIS Monday, June 13th. We would like you to view, listen, and comment during the meeting on the BOE Webcast on the district website or Fios Channel 33.
Thank you for your continued support of this initiative which will protect the health and well-being of our students.

Tales From The Wood…
So... Thanks again for.. everything.
I've been very moved by the outpouring of support and affection for our Family during these difficult times.. very moved.
Anyway.. after over 50 years!!
What a cool ass dude!
One of my favorite childhood memories resurfaces..
I was so small I couldn't sit on the seat. I had to stand in front of him as we zipped around Ridgewood...
This particular time was a holiday I don't recall..
I just remember pleading to go on, but we had to get back and sit down to dinner... and boy did I pout !!
Needless to say... My Uncle's scooter was the star of the estate sale...

Rock Hound
I've been cutting open a lot of rocks lately using my $25 used tile saw. Here is a rock I found in the river at the Riverside Park boat landing the other day. It looked like it might have an interesting "inside," so I brought it home and cut it and shaped it into a couple of small slabs using the tile saw. I have no idea what kind of rock it is, but it has some interesting colors and patterns in it.
I'm going to throw the slabs in the tumbler and see what happens. They might polish up real nice, or, because of all of the fractures, they may just break into dozens of tiny pieces. Anticipation!
