Menterns
‘Mentern’ is a term coined by Chip Conley in his book “Wisdom at Work” through his experience at Airbnb. It is a unique mentor-meets-intern opportunity for Modern Elders.
I write today about Menterns because our own RHSAA has created a new program which seeks to leverage the experiences of older adults. Through the RAX program alumni provide mentoring to high school students. They are given the highly gratifying chance to offer their point of view and experience with today’s complicated problems. The program runs this May and June.
Happy to say the RHSAA was inundated with more than 100 offers from alumni to be mentors. It shows that RHS alumni remember how hard it was starting their own careers. This phenomenon might best be described as a program that:
has been built on the belief that if we can help elders capture and share their life experiences and stories - we can inspire and guide future generations.
From my vantage point the RHSAA is fostering a spirit of cooperation and civic engagement as important as anything that might be uttered during the online mentoring sessions. That’s a good beginning for any kind of alumni program. We’ll report on the results and plans for next year.

International Do-Gooder
Vinnie Vaxine has dedicated himself and his God-given talents to getting people back together safely in a post pandemic world where, gosh darn it, it's just OK to hug again! Once again, Rock and Roll will save us all! This international rock start uses the gift of song and topical comedy to bring the world together for a post pandemic Dancing in the Streets party though vaccination and safe practices. Who'd have thought that after all, it was rock and roll!?
