Past Things Never Stay Where We Left Them
I was once a jock, but no longer. It doesn’t mean I gave up exercising, only competitive sporting events. Not even the annual Ridgewood Turkey Bowl at Glen Field can entice me these days.
I know discontinuing the competitive activities we engaged in when young is obvious to most people. A twisted ankle in a pickup game leaves you sore and usually with little incentive to place yourself at risk again. The skills and flexibility which once came so easily, vanish in what seems like a flash. The recovery times from minor injuries now seems to me longer than ever.
It turns out those moments of recovery, flexibility, and endurance are not where I left them in my memory. They have found a new place reserved solely for wise thoughts. I don’t visit this region of the brain nearly as much as I ought to. If I were to regularly consult this archive I would find front and center: “The mind is willing but the body isn’t.” It is one of those adages you have to live through and live with to understand. Nothing shameful about turning the playing field over to more nimble participants. It produces a much less ridiculous spectacle than that of an elder trying unsuccessfully to make his/her body recall their youthful ability, which used to appear without much thought or regret.

Sun Rises Over Wagner
Perhaps my favorite spot in all of Central Park - A view of Wagner's Cove as the sun makes its way over Cherry hill to my east while a couple sits in the pavilion discussing their plans for the day.
Looking north with the Beresford in the distance.
Time 840am.

Angel Halo Top Brass Flower Vase
M+A NYC's solid brass flower vase reflects your blooms on the top of it's shiny halo; with a mirror finish to highlight the beauty of a single and bold bloom of your choosing or a delightful nosegay of many. Meant to be paired with her little buddy, the Angel Halo Bud Vase in a sweet grouping.
Designed in Brooklyn by M+A NYC
Made in India by master artisans
Solid brass with a mirrored finish
4.5" x 4.25"
Care:
Un-treated brass will tarnish and pick up the natural oils of your hands. We love the natural patina of this beautiful metal - but if you'd like to keep it crazy-shiny, just make a paste of baking soda and lemon juice; work the paste on with a soft cloth and rub in one direction; rinse and buff with another soft dry cloth!
There is also a market product called "Brasso" that cleans brass quickly.

Temperatures around 50 degrees this afternoon, combined with the thick snow cover on the ground, have created some seriously dense fog. Temps will fall back into the teens by tomorrow evening. In between the two temperature swings will be some wild weather for the upper Midwest tonight.

Circus Works
Dear Friends of Phoenix Youth Circus Arts,
“Circus Works!” – that is a motto of the American Youth Circus Organization – and indeed, circus has been proven to work for kids of all types. Phoenix Youth Circus Arts knows this and sees it all the time. Each day is full of “Look what I can do!” and “Look what WE can do!” moments. Circus lets kids be a super version of themselves. They can fly through the air off a mini-tramp, defy gravity with juggling and unicycling, and they create true magic - the surprise and delight in all the folks with whom they share their skills.
Read on to hear some of the highlights of our year, in spite of the world still being hobbled by the pandemic. Where we have been able to work, we remain the only organization providing this type of youth development in Phoenix. And we do it at low or no cost to our participants because of the help we receive from friends like you. So if you have survived the pandemic and also believe circus works – chip in and help bring more smiles and magic to the world!
