Inter-generational Alumni Collaborations
My mind sometimes drifts to possible ideas for inter-generational collaborations, especially among RHS alumni. The number of RHS alumni has been estimated to be around 25,000. They are widely dispersed around the world and a lot less homogenized than they were while attending schools in Ridgewood. They constitute a largely untapped resource capable of a myriad of roles in different type projects. This I find immensely intriguing.
An outstanding example of RHS alumni collaboration is the Ridgewood High School Athletic Hall Of Fame. It was begun well before the first class of inductees were selected in 2004. Led by Jeff Yearing, RHS 1966, and Tom Thurston, RHS 1977, the HOF honors athletes and teams of athletes for their distinguished participation in the wide variety of sports supported by RHS.
The HOF essentially collects touchstones. These points of affinity provide younger generations examples of how to act. Older generations are reminded of the significance which athletics plays in people’s lives.
Besides the online commemorative aspects of the HOF, they hold a biennial dinner hosted by Sally Tarvin Thurston, RHS 1985, and fundraiser Sam Cermack, RHS 1977. This event gathers alumni and friends and is the focal point of the countless hours spent researching and debating qualifications of honorees. The debates are no easy task when you do a careful reading of the athletic accomplishments and contributions to RHS these alumni provide. Check it out!

Tales From The Wood…
Hudson Street Garage Views, August, 2021
I was having a discussion with my friend, Mey, about this photo and I thought I'd share it with you...
First.. The parking garage looks a lot bigger outside than it does inside.. It's half ramp. It has to accommodate 2 way traffic all the way up to the fourth level..
I'm starting to like it.. Anyway...
Mey, to be honest.. It's a little disappointing (meaning the views)... I don't imagine the architects who designed the buildings over 100 years ago envisioned a four story parking garage that almost dwarfs Mount Carmel or they might have utilized a little more artistry... Behind the beautiful facades we love so much fire escapes, bicycles, laundry and recyclables are revealed.. Yes. Nice shot.
Because you wouldn't even recognize it if I'd pointed the camera down..

Pizza Rolls
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming…
Pizza Rolls.
Take the leftover pizza dough that Son #2 made for yesterday’s firing of the oven. Roll it very thin while flouring both sides. Grab some leftover toppings, spread them thinly over half of the dough. Roll it up tightly, brush with Olive Oil (or not), and into a 500 degree convect oven for around 10 minutes.
Let rest a few minutes, cut in half, dunk in leftover sauce - enjoy.
