Shining City Upon A Hill
We are in the midst of a flurry of RHS Alumni Class Reunions. Some of these gatherings were to make up for regularly occuring events lost during the Covid Pandemic.
I suggest we make good use of all the friendliness being generated by Ridgewood High School Alumni and think about beginning a service project centered around the history of Ridgewood Public Schools.
By service project I mean: (1) having a common goal, (2) participants being able to work & contribute remotely, (3) encouraging people of all ages to be a part of the process.
All final work would be shared on the web.
The web sites would be designed, updated, and funded by a yet to be created institution. I believe we need a new generation of individuals, collaborating with our previous generations, to carry the torch and lead the way on this service project.
Some of the tasks which could be included: (1)Digitizing all the Arrow Yearbook currently in the possession of RHS, (2) gathering pictures and remembrances of special moments like RHS graduations & reunions, creating tributes to outstanding teachers, administrators, employees, (3) updating the lists of names of graduates who are no longer with us.
Our country is still capable of great things. A service project of this kind would demonstrate our commitment to keeping America a “Shining City Upon A Hill.”

Zarathustra
The is the last photo I took today as I walked east towards the subway at Willets Point with the tone poem Zarathustra by Strauss echoing in my head.
Shot looking west while standing in the "mist" plaza with fountains on.
Time 11:15am.

Mighty Are We As One
M + A is a destination devoted to art, artists, artisans and design. We are inspired by art as it relates to design: the soul, the spark that ignites beautiful ideas. We are equally as motivated by craft traditions passed down from generations.

Crystal clear water rushing over rocks. The water looks like it's in a hurry to get somewhere.

You’re Saying It Wrong
abjure / adjure
“Joanne Stephaniak offers a code of vegan ethics: (1) Vegans are sensitive to issues of suffering, (2) vegans value awareness of all life forms, (3) vegans adjure violence, and (4) vegans expand the principle of harmlessness.”
Violent vegans?
Adjure means “to require, often under oath, to earnestly urge.” So vegans adjuring violence means thye’re getting their pitchforks ready and sharpened for an attack.
Doubtful, whatever you may think of veganism. The authors (we hope) meant abjure, which means “to solemnly reject or renounce.” So vegans are not on the rampage, but instead are rejecting violence.
