RHS Homecoming Weekend October 7-9, 2022
The Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) began with the idea that anything was possible. It’s founders believed a robust alumni community with members who lived around the world could be created and a wide variety of programs sustained. This coming weekend is RHS Homecoming:
“We are thrilled to welcome home all alumni on this annual Homecoming Weekend and celebrate together the largest single donation ever made in the history of the Ridgewood Public Schools,” says RHSAA Interim President, Tara Augustine.”
“The Ridgewood High School Alumni Association is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the Duffield STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) Initiative on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. on the front lawn of Ridgewood High School (RHS). The ceremony is the cornerstone event of the three-day Homecoming Weekend and will showcase three exciting projects that were made possible by the incredible generosity of esteemed alumnus, David Duffield, RHS Class of 1958, and the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation.
The Duffield STEAM Initiative launched in May of 2021 when the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) facilitated a grant in the amount of $635,000, the largest single donation ever made in the history of the Ridgewood Public Schools. This extraordinary gift enabled the district to introduce cutting-edge production equipment and machinery to the makerspace, revamp the media lab with digital video equipment and a professional recording booth, and transform the outdated foods lab into a professional culinary space. These projects directly support hands-on learning components and provide robust experiences that better prepare students for educational opportunities beyond high school and careers.”

Warm Flowers In Cold Rain
I've taken many pictures in front of this bodega - I don't know if I'm drawn here by the smell of flowers or by the smell of Kielbasa from Baczynsky's meat market across the street - perhaps a photo of sausages in a window is next.
This photo is dedicated to my friend Brooke who minutes early lost an epic chess match at Burb Castle against the bartender as we sipped trappist beer.
Shot on 2nd Avenue at 9th street looking into flowers covered in thick plastic outside a bodega.
Time 6pm.

Rock Hound
This hunk of dolomite fractured off of the side of the cliff at Cave Point and fell into Lake Michigan. I'll bet that root from the cedar tree had something to do with the rock fracturing. It's a never ending process along this shoreline. It's always changing.

You’re Saying It Wrong
complacent / complaisant
“This interruption of the poliovirus circulation is significant, but we cannot afford to be complaisant.” —UNICEF PRESS RELEASE
We cannot afford to be complacent about the use of complaisant. It isn’t a different way to spell complacent and the two words are not interchangeable.
Like so many easily confused words, they look similar and sound alike. Complacent is the more common of the two words and means “pleased with oneself, self-satisfied.” Complaisant means “willing to please or yielding.”
