Comfort The Afflicted & Afflict the Comfortable
The victories by Evan Weitz and Siobahn Winograd in the recent Village Council Election pave the wave for much needed action on three issues facing Ridgewood:
Hybrid Communication for Council Meetings; this would allow voters with disabilities to participate remotely, as well as everyone else.
Schedler House Preservation. Owned by the Village, the house has been unoccupied since 2007. Publishing a timeline on efforts to move this project forward would be a good first step.
Town Garage: What does the Village do with a toxic waste dump in the center of town? Again, keeping the Village informed about costs and the timeline for remediation will go a long way to solidifying support around a solution.
Fortunately, the Village Council’s newest members, Evan Weitz and Siobahn Winograd, have personalities based upon the strong ethics they learned as children from their parents & in their schools. They each embody a much needed enthusiasm for what government can accomplish to make our society better. They won’t rest on their election larrels and side with those laissez faire individuals who would just assume let unfettered markets sort out all our problems. The issues are much too big for Voodoo Economics, better known as Trickle-Down economics. They won’t cower at the plight of our less advantaged citizens and then hope for the best. They know there are hard choice to be made and much work to be done.
Weitz & Winograd already possess knowledge of the issues and the entrenched opinions that they will have to compromise with. More importantly, they have a sense of Civic Purpose with which we can begin to solve problematic Village issues. They’ll begin remediation efforts by simply keeping voters publicly informed on progress. What’s more, they possess the integrity to own these issues for better or worse, no matter what names they are called or embarrassments they might be subjected to by their adversaries. They know all too well that their jobs are, as Jimmy Breslin once said about his own job as a newspaper reporter, to “bring comfort to the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.”
Our responsibilities now as citizens with a newly elected government is to support their efforts to sweep out all vestiges of the old regime and lay a new foundation of hope. Weitz & Winograd are our Champions for Change in the Village Council. They deserve to be given the same chance that their predecessors once had and squandered.

I swear sometimes when I look through my lens...I think what I'm seeing isn't real...it looks more like a Saturday morning cartoon or PSA but I am telling you...the little rubber figurines you see in this photo are real...I know cause one of em came up to me while I was laying on on my stomach on the edge of the fountain and said..."Conjunction Junction, what's your function?"...and I rolled over a bit and looking up replied "Hooking up words and phrases and clauses."

I often forget that people don't recognize landmarks after so many years.. On the left was Drapkins and on the right, across the street, ESPOSITOS Ridgewood NJ is now Melissa Gorga's (Real Housewives of New Jersey) boutique, "ENVY"..

Did You Know…
Later School Start Times
"Champions for Change"
By Dr. Anne Robinson
Did you know that prominent school leaders from Chatham, Princeton, and Radnor are stepping forward to state that Later School Start Time (LSST) is not only the single most important change their districts have ever made in all of their years in education but that they hope that the positive impact this change has had on students, families, and the entire culture of their school communities will become their legacies. They are "Champions for Change" and have become ambassadors for LSST.
Please take a moment to hear them discuss the journey they each took in making LSST a reality in their districts. They dispel the myths, break down the barriers, and recommend with full conviction that other districts follow their lead. It's high time that Ridgewood joined the ranks of districts that are prioritizing student health, well-being, and achievement.

RIDGEWOOD — In a stunning upset, incumbent Mayor Susan Knudsen was defeated in Tuesday's election for a third Village Council term.
Newcomers Evan Weitz and Siobahn Winograd received the most votes for the two open seats, besting Knudsen and former Fire Chief James Van Goor. Deputy Mayor Mike Sedon, whose term would have been up in December, resigned in September, citing a work conflict.
The five-member Council will appoint a new mayor and deputy mayor for two-year terms at its reorganization meeting in January, according to Village Manager Heather Mailander.

pejorative
“Alistair Cooke, a former British Intelligence officer, argues in the Guardian that the word ‘terrorist’ is a perjorative term.” —HONEST REPORTING BLOG
We suspect Honest Reporting misquoted Cooke. The intelligence officer probably said “pejorative,” unless he wasn’t that intelligent…
There’s no per in pejorative, but many people don’t know it.
