Creating A Schedler Park
The Village of Ridgewood purchased the property near Glen School in 2009. The original intention was to preserve one of the few remaining nineteenth-century Dutch frame homes in Ridgewood. Fourteen years later the building is far from preserved and grounds are neither a public park or a recreation facility.
This sort of futility is not uncommon in our world and I haven’t given up hope that the new Village Council will make things right. Listening to the recent discussions among Village Council members it sounds like they will make good on all the past false starts and deliver a well-coordinated plan with a clear goal.
Fortunately, Council knows the history and the pitfalls. I believe a regulation size, multi-purpose athletic field with grass, a walking path, and parking spaces to accomodate the crowds will be the final outcome. The house will be preserved and a set of bathrooms will also be built along side the house.
I’d like to add that a section of plantings of indigenous flowers, bushes & trees would be a nice touch. A low fence built in the same style of the period could surround this small garden patch. As Robert Frost said, “Good fences make good neighbors.” It certainly couldn’t hurt to give this small plot a definitive boundary.

Wherever You Go, There You Are.
Last night was the beginning of the Celtic festival day of Imbolc. The true beginning of Spring in Ireland and Scotland.
The days begin to lengthen dramatically now. Since Nov 1 we have lost or gained but 40 min of daylight. We gain 40 in the next 3 weeks. And another 50 in the ensuing 4 weeks.
Pagans also see it as the main fire festival of the year, and if you’re an Outlander fan, one of the best days to go through the stones. In case you have a stone circle nearby.
Americans celebrate it as Groundhog Day, when a local rodent acts like a Weather forecaster who is mostly wrong because Weather is a complex system and not dependent on the shadow of a hibernating rat.
That said. Both PJ and Lexie saw their shadows this morning. Let’s see what that means. Of course, in Tucson the sun has not crested the mountains yet, so I am assuming they’ll see their shadow since there isn’t a cloud in the sky. Winter here has lasted since mid october and I think everyone here is ready for it to warm up.

There will be extra reason to celebrate the beginning of summer in Ridgewood this year - the Pedestrian Plaza is back! At the very first meeting, the council took action to set the process in motion. The exact dates and included streets will be determined by our police department. I'm looking forward to seeing you all out in the Central Business District on summer weekends! —Mayor Paul Vagianos
