RHS Top Chef
This is not a simple brag. Seriously, I propose a contest: We find 5 RHS Seniors to volunteer to make an omelet, tossed salad, and salad dressing in 45 minutes. They would be judged on presentation, taste, and timeliness.
The best omelet and salad would be crowned RHS Top Chef.
We hold the contest on a Saturday morning in the new RHS kitchens. I volunteer to be one of the judges. I’ll go as far as to demonstrate how to make an omelet, tossed salad, and salad dressing, then let them go at it.
The contest would provide all the food ingredients for the students.
I mention this because it’s my strong feeling that in the rush to prepare students to get into the best college, university, or technical school we have forgotten that they will be needing to eat the rest of their lives, and hopefully long into a happy retirement.
Cooking is just as essential as a shiny LinkedIn profile or an achievement filled resume. Probably more so. Yet we turn out graduates who can’t cook for themselves, let alone for a group. It doesn’t make sense and I think the high school ought to do something about it. At minimum a contest to see what talent if any exists.
This I would truly like to see and be a part of.

A View Of The Belvedere
The two couple were lost forgetting about rhat first kiss when they fell in love till they saw me in my linen suit looking like Hannibal Lector at the end of Silence of the Lambs laying in a puddle.
Shot in a puddle on Calle del Curato de Santo de Toribio looking north just south of Calle Sargente Mayor as a carriage click clocks by.

Mighty Are We As One
Anyone in need of a touch of green right about now? In NY February can be a bit brutal and I start to crave pretty much anything that is green and growing. Our Cylindrical Alabaster Planters work great for bulbs and can help you fill the gap from winter to spring. I recycle plastic pots from the plant shops that I buy from and pop them inside the stone planters to enable me to easily switch up the end use. If they are a little taller than the height of the stone I just take a pair of scissors and cut down the top edge so that it sits below the alabaster rim. To grow the Paper White bulbs like the ones that I have here, just put them in well draining soil, water them every few days, and place them in a sunny window. (Note: There is a hole in the bottom of the alabaster planters to help facilitate drainage and improve aeration). When the bulbs are finished just pull out the liners and switch them out for glass votives. They make beautiful lanterns too.

Norman
Norman
We lost Norman today. He had been with us for nearly his entire 13 years. For some odd reason he only has a single horn, so he was our Uni-Goat. Norman was a like a barrel of monkeys, always getting himself into trouble, yet with just enough of a mischievous gleam in his eye that you would soon forgive him.
Long before we had adequate fencing, Norman would join me for coffee and then follow me to the car expecting to be my co-pilot. He often got the nod, enjoying the opportunity to see the world, and was always far better behaved than the dogs, who were jealous that he usually scored the front seat. Once we upgraded the fencing around the pasture (it was a summer project for the three boys) Norman would jump out, trim Deb’s shrubs, and then jump back in so that he could plausibly deny any involvement while subtly suggesting that he had seen a herd of deer come through earlier.
Elizabeth, his cousin, is taking it well, but we’ll be keeping an eye on all of them over the next few weeks
Siobhan Crann Winograd
Village Council
Jason DeAlessi, TapintoRidgewood
Councilmember Siobhan Winograd, who is on the committee, said that during her campaign last fall as well as during the Covid-19 pandemic there was a hankering for better media coordination from the town of Ridgewood.
“During my campaign and during Covid it became very apparent that the Ridgewood public had a very strong appetite for public information. Post Covid, we’re doing business in a different way and while Ridgewood’s doing a good job creating content and promoting information, it’s a new way of doing business and there’s room for improvement for us.”
Winograd said that in addition to entering in a new stage of how the local Ridgewood government communicates with its constituents, there is also an opening for remodeling old ways of communication. For example, Winograd points to the paper calendar that, according to the councilmember, is a staple of the town and is something that can be updated.
“It’s beloved,” Winograd told TAPinto Ridgewood. “We digitized that and we’re putting that out both on the website and on social [media] and that just takes standard content and lets people know that the purpose of the presentation was to identify that there is room for opportunity and we are going to need a new website.”
