Observer
Whole Health Learning in K-12
It would seem apparent that in light of a well-documented & “unchecked rise in childhood obesity, substance abuse, and concurrent declines in mental, emotional and behavioral health and academic performance” what was reported by The Institute of Medicine in 1997 is plainly more urgently needed now.
This is sadly not the case. We’ve all been overwhelmed by the Covid pandemic, so there’s no finger pointing of blame from this observer. I’m just glad to see, Anne Robinson MD, RHS 1977, advocating for a fresh look at this topic. She is Vice Chair of the Health Advisory Board of The Center for Whole Health Learning in K-12, Inc. The group’s Vision for children is lofty:
… to strengthen their own well-being and that of their families, communities and the planet,
…and to develop a mindset that will inform their lifestyle choices as they grow and mature and bypass the chronic illnesses that are now projected for most of them.
The Whole Health Ed Mission: is to advance partnerships, models and collaborations among educators, practitioners, public and private agencies and organizations who are in position to support much greater investment in and commitment to this vision.
Include yourselves in this effort by regularly doing a bit of self-reflection and asking the question made popular in the 1960s: “Are you a part of the problem or a part of the solution?”
Start with small efforts. Make it your calling to not allow our youth to feel doomed to the dystopian projections being made about them by commentators from all parts of society. Let’s Teach Our Children Well.

Standing Still With Time
In this town...time stands still as do the horses.

Tales From The Wood…
It’s not the best grammar and it detracts from the retro pole's beauty, but I can appreciate the spirit of it… Takes a lot of hands and effort.

Another 5 or 6 inch wet and heavy snowfall. Almost gave up with the snowblower and called the plow guy, but toughed it out and got it done. It's a sloppy mess out there, but at least the river has broken up down by the dock and we can see moving water again. Turkey, fox and coyote tracks all over the place. Spring is on the way.

You’re Saying It Wrong
Ross & Kathy’s podcast: You're Saying It Wrong is a podcast that looks at what we get wrong—and what we sometimes get right—when it comes to this English language.
