Junk Day
I don’t remember what the day was, probably in the Spring, when people would put their junk out by the curb and the Village would come by to dispose of it. Though not if the kids in my neighborhood saw some value in it first!
This practice is now called Curb Mining, which describes our youthful endeavor in a much more high-brow tone. It was an understanding among homeowners that if your stuff is taken you breath a sigh of relief, if not it’s the walk of shame as you bring it back for disposal at a later date.
It was like the entire Village would have a garage sale at the same time, though no money exchanged hands and no haggling was done. Somehow this so-called junk wasn’t worth the time or the homeowner didn’t have a good enough reason like moving to have a garage sale of their own.
All I recall was how fun it was to be in grade school and we’d notice all the junk on the curb. We could spend hours combing through other people’s stuff and not care a wit why they were getting rid of it, only that it was now ours for the taking. Priceless.

April 8, 2023 - Little Italy
City of Angels
I always enjoy going down to Little Italy on Easter weekend and after popping into a few cheese shops...I find myself in need of cannoli and as I stand outside of Ferrara's bakery enjoying my tube shaped fried beauty sweet smothered with pistachios on one side and chocolate chops on the other...I stare into the window of E. Rossi & Company and see this.
Shot on Grand street just east of Mulberry looking south and weet with a north and west reflection.

Tales From The Wood…
75 degrees and Spring is in the air..
I watched a couple Giants games here last fall because The Office was too crowded, but I've yet to enjoy this.. Hard to believe it's the old Woolworth's.. The garage door, open air, alfresco remodel is genius. As is It's Greek to Me's next door. Very inviting.
