Cord Cutting
All my life I have been an avid follower of News and Sports. Now instead of grousing about the annoying activities and pointless behavior featured daily in Television News Broadcasts, I am joining the throng of people who choose not to listen and have cut their connection to a TV service provider.
My net savings are $150 per month and I still have lightning fast (1 gig) Internet and a phone number via a Cloud Communications Provider. Whatever sort of delusional thinking I previously held about the need for viewing TV and Sports is now squarely in the rear view mirror. All manner of news and sports highlights are on the Internet and can be seen on my schedule.
It was surprising how easy it was to cut the cord on Linear Television, also known as Appointment TV, and all matter of live sporting events. I thought I might miss it. I don’t.
Our technology has produced a wealth of information and news, so much so we now lack consensus on what makes for popular conversation. Our loss of ability to make small chat is allowing blowhards, each with their own peculiar selective outrage which they feel we ought to know about, to determine which words we can politely use.
The result of of their jabberwocky is that our words are slowly losing their meaning and being replaced by incomprehensible jargon. Maybe if we spent less time staring at TV weather forecasters pointing to the plainly visible predictions, we’d have more time for Civic-minded activites. Remote participation in public meetings is on the rise and can be plausibly linked to increased participation in our democratic institution. While a three-hour webcast of the Village Board of Education might not be everyone’s cup of tea, these duly elected officials are deciding the fates of massive budgets. Even if you fast-forward through these presentations, the time spent makes you a more engaged citizen and gives you something of significance to talk to your neighbors about.
Maybe Philosophy will make a comeback and come to dominant our conversations. Talking about the the “Meaning of Life” and “What is the good?” may conjure up memories of collegiate lectures, but it couldn’t be worse than hearing the commonly uninformed opinions, for example, of business marketing gurus who can say without a trace of sarcasm that,
their businesses recommend solutions combining cutting-edge approaches with strategic business concepts that move KPIs and make a real impact.
As I have often told clients, “I can’t make this stuff up!”

The Hot Hand
As I make my way downtown on a cold day while walking on the east side of 6th Avenue...i see a player breathe into his hand as he dribbles up the court... the light was good and I couldn't resist but try to capture the beauty and chaos that's known as the West 4th street cages - by the way.... I would have jumped in to show the kids about the idea off pass pass shoot but they seemed to understand the idea of puff puff pass more.
Fyi- I put the photo through a filter after I took it just to add a little fairy dust to the moment

You’re Saying It Wrong
Ross & Kathy’s podcast: You're Saying It Wrong is a podcast that looks at what we get wrong—and what we sometimes get right—when it comes to this English language.
It's #NationalSiblingDay! Which I never heard of! It's probably a brand new fake holiday! But who cares! It gives me an excuse to put up this adorable pic of me and da bro when we were very young! (Ross always smiled nicely for the camera. Me, not so much. I was more of a whiner.)
