Ridgewood Pedestrian Plaza 2023
Glad to hear about the return of the Ridgewood Pedestrian Plaza this coming Spring & Summer. Though hidden in the minutes of a committee meeting discussing the Pedestrian Plaza’s return, I read about the proposal to hire a Village Information Officer. Now that is something to get excited about!
Too bad they are considering a “volunteer” as the answer. Just ask the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) how well that turned out for them. Their website is rarely updated and the offshoot is that the organization has become irrelevant.
What the Village Council meant to say was that the person whom they hire for the job of Village Information Officer would be given a 30 day audition. After that time the person would be considered for a permanent position. This idea might work depending on how well the position is documented. It has to be clearly stated what the job entails so that anyone, anywhere who understands how to maintain a website, write a newsletter, and post regularly on Social Media could do the job.
Sounds like a perfect position for yours truly.

Ready, Set, Legs
On a cold misty day...a model in a pink dress steps up onto the bench in Times Square as a photographer points to where she should stand.
This is a pure reflection shot into the black marble bench looking north at 47rh street and Broadway.

Birdling
Birdling was born in 2012, when our founder Courtney went on vacation for the first time with her new baby. Frustrated by the disorganized jumble of clothes and gear in her cavernous travel bag, she thought to herself, “There has to be a better way.”
She enlisted our co-founder Meagan to help design a bag that’s divided into a bunch of super-useful compartments, and Birdling quickly took flight. Almost a decade—and thousands of customers— later, seeing our bags out in the wild still excites us. It feels like only yesterday we were just a couple of friends building a company out of our homes.
Today, we sell 14+ products that are designed to do one thing: make your life easier. And as we grow and expand, we keep finding new ways to do that, like adding really durable hardware, new types of pockets (insulated! waterproof!) and extra-comfy handles. Our products are great looking, built to last, and functional like no other. And when you purchase a Birdling bag, you get above and beyond customer service. It’s who we are.
Here at Birdling, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We know we’re not changing the world. But we have figured out a way to make classic canvas bags better, so your next vacation, day at the beach, or trip to the office can be a little bit smoother. And that’s something we’re proud of.

Songs Of The Pogo Podcast
An Introduction to the Wonderful World of Walt Kelly
WALT KELLY’S POGO IS ALIVE AND WELL
Frank Farrell from Ridgewood High School Class of 1975 is making sure.
SONGS OF THE POGO Podcast Episodes # 1 - 5 with host and Ridgewood High School alum Frank Farrell are now available and free to the public for listening wherever you listen to your podcasts. Frank is joined by co-host Ben Masterton for eight episodes featuring actors and singers from all over the U. S. of A. including Norm Boucher, Danny Crawford, Aisha de Haas, Karen Eterovich, Richard Henzel, Elizabeth Kelly, Jennifer Kim, Zander Kirby, Julia Maish, Ashley Oviedo, Jeanette Schwaba and Darren Stephens. SONGS OF THE POGO, an eight episode podcast series, is available for listening via most podcast providers and at https://sites.libsyn.com/451542.
SONGS OF THE POGO is a Podcast based on Walt Kelly’s 1956 book entitled Songs of the Pogo. Hosts Frank Farrell, Ben Masterton and a company of 12 actors provide the many colorful voices in each episode, working through the 30 songs in the songbook and telling the stories that preface each song, along with Kelly’s personal memoirs and magazine interviews.
Says podcast producer Frank Farrell, “I discovered Pogo when as a newspaper boy I was picking up my pile of newspapers to deliver from some garage behind a house on Maple Ave when I spotted a cardboard box filled with these odd looking Pogo books. I had never seen a comic strip in a book before. Comic books, yes, but not a hefty book. Common today but not so when I was growing up. The look of Disney attracted my attention at first but then I discovered the playful language and after that I was hooked.”
Walt Kelly (August 25, 1913 – October 18, 1973), was an American animator and cartoonist, best known for the comic strip Pogo. He began his animation career in 1936 at Walt Disney Studios, contributing to Pinocchio, Fantasia and Dumbo. In 1941, at the age of 28, Kelly transferred to work at Dell Comics, where he created Pogo, which eventually became his platform for political and philosophical humor. The Pogo comic strip started in 1948 and ran in daily newspapers till 1975. For more about this podcast visit https://thesongsofthepogo.com
