Student DEBT
Borrowed Future is a documentary by Dave Ramsey which provides first hand accounts of the inner workings of the student loan industry in the US. The latest data reportedly has 45 million people owing 1.6 Trillion in student loan DEBT.
Why did we encourage these young people, many of them teenagers, to take on massive amounts of debt?
These students were convinced to take out loans partly through the persuasive efforts of trusted individuals. They publicized a set of data which predicted the expected future earnings for degree holders and those went learned a trade.
It goes like this: teenagers are told by their parents, relatives, and counselors that they will make 1 million dollars more than people without a college degree over the course of their careers. There is usually a chart which accompanies this assertion, as if that makes the suspect data more believable or valid.
All this careerist talk is initiated by the organizations who benefit most from the students who carry debt: Banks and Higher Education. Let’s recognize their inherent bias towards turning a profit during this time of the year when so many people finalize decisions about entering the Hallowed Halls of Academia. We need to consider both sides of the argument on whether College is a better choice than learning a trade.
The debt numbers are so convincing to me, I’m of the opinion that students who begin learning how to use robots and how to introduce automation into a workplace, have more of a plan than people taking on debt to attend a Residential Liberal Arts College.

Mighty Are We As One
About the Maker | At M+A, we work with artisans to innovate design, product development and product diversification within each exquisite technique. By partnering with them and ensuring living wages, we honor the beauty of craft and help provide economic opportunities for these talented artisans and a future for these precious crafts.
The majority of the textiles that we develop at M + A are made by female artisans who have learned their craft from their mothers, and in turn, pass down their knowledge to their daughters. We take pride in supporting these women and by extension, their families. We know that by helping to empower women and their contributions we are helping to create a more inclusive global economy. We delight in sharing their story and hope that you will be as inspired as we are.
