RHS Graduation 2023
I was able to watch the video of the live-streamed Ridgewood High School 2023 Graduation Ceremonies. After 24 hours there were more than 2,800 views of the video which lasts about 2 and 1/2 hours. It’s located on YouTube.
I greatly admired the work of the Underclassmen who assumed the roles they will be working on in the coming years. They rose to the occasion, with no major errors, using the new high-end equipment purchased with money from the RHS Alumni Association.
The only thing I suggest for future ceremonies would be for the broadcast to acknowledge they are live and streaming to all those who find these ceremonies of interest but can’t make the event to see for themselves. Maybe even a before graduation show & post-graduation update. We have the equipment and plenty of aspiring broadcasters, why not?

Open Your Heart And The Rest Will Flower
Nothing like walking down 28th street early in the morning - the flower shops are over flowing...so much so that they surrounded this fire hydrant much to my delight but not sure the local dogs are so happy.
Shot holding my camera above head and looking down on west 28th street between 6th and 7th avenue
Time 815am.

Mighty Are We As One
This guy! My dog Toby keeps me going. He looks so serious in this photo, but he is actually a total goofball. As a small business owner, there are days that you want to pull your hair out. He helps me get out of my own head and brings levity to my life. So grateful.

Class Of 1972
Meet Alexandra Harrington and Rambod Heydarbeygi (pictured here) from the RHS class of 2023. These are our first recipients of the RHS Class of 1972 Scholarship for Language Arts in Memory of Alexa Sobel. Deb De Vries presented each with the $1500 scholarship award at the RHS Campus Center on June 8th.
Many thanks to all of you who donated. Everyone is encouraged to help make this scholarship possible for two outstanding students on an annual basis. Deb and Betsy Sullivan Gardiner were instrumental in the planning and execution of this award and were in attendance for the ceremony. Hear more about the event, from Deb De Vries, in her own words:
“Betsy and I attended the presentation of 129 scholarships given out that night. After all the scholarship recipients were announced, everyone moved to the gym where Betsy and I met Alexandra, Rambod and their moms for the first time. We had a lovely conversation.
They are two terrific young adults. Both are smart, focused, and very well-spoken, and were very appreciative and excited to have been chosen to receive the scholarships. Understandably, their mothers were beaming with pride for what their children have accomplished.
This past April, Betsy and I reviewed the applications we received. The selection criteria included financial need and interest in pursuing a degree in education. All of the applicants were very-competitive, but these two students stood out and reflected the resilience that Alexa demonstrated throughout her life. Each of them experienced considerable personal challenges dealing with loss and family issues throughout their young lives. Given this, along with financial need, extra-curricular engagement, and successful academic accomplishments, these two emerged as finalists!
It was a fun, meaningful, and positive evening for all. The event underscored just how important these scholarships are to the graduates. Betsy and I believe our class, the class of ’72, is the only graduating class from RHS that has created a scholarship, and we sincerely hope to continue this legacy of financial assistance. Please help us continue making a positive impact on graduating students and honor the memory of Alexa Sobel.
Thanks to all who made this evening possible. “ - Deb De Vries
If you would like to make a donation for next year, 2024. please make a check payable to the "Ridgewood Board of Education" and in the notes section put Class 0f '72 Scholarship-Alexa Sobel.
