RHS Girls Flag Football Champs!
The undefeated Ridgewood Maroons won their first state flag football title with a 47-6 win over the Hillside Comets at the New York Jets training facility in Florham Park last Saturday afternoon.
This is a game I would have liked to see streamed, maybe with some commentary about its significance from student announcers. The commentary on the game might well say that this is the future of Football in the Ridgewood Public Schools.
Yes, Flag Football will soon replace the current style, which medical research is showing to be a likely cause of early dementia in adults. The evidence is overwhelming and when the public finally realizes it is something we can prevent to a degree, then athletic programs will bow to the inevitable and eliminate these unnecessary sports. Our children can do as they please in higher education, but we can admit today that these young skulls don’t need the repetitive blows to their heads.
Instead of acting as a feeder for colleges and university tackle Football programs, the high school would set an example on how healthy athletic programs operate in the 21st Century. It can’t come too soon!

I had lunch today at the University Club
I met my dad and brother for lunch
I was early so I went to the library on the 4th floor and sat with a book about Kierkegaard written in German - I thought there would be pictures but there wasn't and when the guy turned to me and said my dad was on the 7th floor....I stood up and out the window I heard Kierkegaard say that Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards and I shot this looking across 5th ave with the hope of me in the arched window on the left.
Shot looking east across 5th ave just north of 54th street.

Mighty Are We As One
I'm a big fan of a day bed. Especially one that's near a window. I don't use mine to sleep. Instead, I use them as a comfortable launch pad to do the stuff that I've gotta do - like create this post! And I also use them as a perch to see what's going on in my garden or just to watch the sun coming up or going down.To make them function well for you, comfort is key. Our Hand loomed cotton pillows are super plush and soft, as well as being easy on the eyes. They create the perfect neutral backdrop for whatever you've got to do...or not do. It's all up to you.
Happy Summer!

Privilege Comes With Risk
Will some folks never learn?
Privilege comes with risk.
Speeding across
The iceberg lanes
The Titanic scrapes a gash
Along its bulkheads
and sinks
Dropping like a stone to see
A blurry hulk,
The Titan blows inward
Before each expeditionist
Takes a turn
At the porthole
The remnants
Of tragedy mix
The currents
The pressure
The crowds watching
The money spent.

The smoky haze from the Canadian fires was so thick at Cave Point today that any photo showing the sky, or any distance, was not very attractive. The smoke smell was very strong too. But this little protected cove didn't seem to be bothered at all by the smoke. I wanted so bad to jump in, but discretion said otherwise. Jumping in is easy. Climbing out, not so much.

George Pease
On June 26, 1835 (188 years ago) George L. Pease was born. George purchased a summer home in Ridgewood around 1871, and was heavily involved in the development of the community. Years later, in her own will, George's daughter, Gertrude Pease Anderson bequeathed money to build a library in Ridgewood. One of her requests was that it would be named after her father. In 1923 the George L. Pease Memorial Library opened to the public. We hope you'll join us in celebrating its 100th birthday!
