Maroon Memories
I have many Maroon Memories surrounding the 4th of July. They are all set against the backdrop that Summer has just begun, and that in Autumn there will be plenty of changes. It’s impossible to feel otherwise when you are standing along the Ridgewood 4th of July parade route. You know this same parade route, sometimes weeks in advance, as the parade faithful put out their chairs to claim a spot.
Putting chairs out well in advance of the 4th of July Parade is one of those quirky things about Ridgewood that people find endearing. The Parade is followed, hopefully, by an invitation to an afternoon BBQ, or bu a visit to the Ridgewood Pedestrian Plaza. The day concludes by finding an elevated spot to watch the fireworks, either in Ridgewood or one of the adjoining towns. Gates at Veterans Field open at 6 p.m. on July 4. There will be food trucks, musical entertainment, and fireworks. Tickets are required.

Us Against The World
Took a long walk with my friend @matthewfrohling today and as we approached the Unisphere...there was a group practicing tai chi - I waited and shot this.

A Cup Of Tea On The Commode
(Mom wakes in a tizzy.)
Gen: I have no idea what my hair looks like to go out in public. It needs to be set.
Mark: When are you going out in public?
Gen: I have no idea.
(She falls back asleep.)

Rock Hound
A tangle of cedar trees and roots at Cave Point County Park in Door County, Wisconsin.
These trees are sitting on the top of a 15 foot high cliff on a northeastern shore of Lake Michigan. They are growing in rock; cracked layers of dolomite that is over 400 million years old. They are also exposed to harsh natural elements, especially in winter. After a winter storm with strong southwest winds, they are covered with thick layers of ice caused by the waves crashing into the cliff. They are hardy little buggers. I wonder how old they are?
