RHS Arrow Project Summer Update
The RHS Arrow Project is a Ridgewood High School alumni-led project, in collaboration with the Ridgewood Public Library. Our aim is to digitize over one hundred twenty years of history, and create an online archive of all the RHS Arrow Yearbooks.
Thousands of digital files are being created this Summer by Michael Culver, RHS 2002, and his firm 1Row.com. Thousands more were previously created for the Ridgewood Public Library by volunteers from a Correctional Institution in the Southeast US.
Taken together these digital undertakings are keeping something we value alive, intact, and free from damage. It is of enormous importance to the community, as preservation shows our common purpose. It also shines a light on the events from our past which shaped our current outlook.

Cleared For Landing
As I walked east along Roosevelt Avenue after a brief visit to Sunnyside...I started to notice planes crossing over head in front of me and as I kept walking more and more planes were passing and after a few more blocks I got to a point on Roosevelt Avenue where the planes...on approach to LaGuardia Airport...were crossing directly over head - every minute or so another would come roaring straight down Woodlawn Avenue - a sight to behold for sure and so I took out my phone and shot this.
A pure reflection taken in a puddle at Woodlawn and Roosevelt looking south west with 7 train and hanging wires overhead.

How-To Solve Your Own Problems
Alright, let's make things clear from the get-go: I'm not some mystic, psychic, or magician. But guess what? I've stumbled upon something that feels nearly magical – a recipe, a solution to tackle any problem you're grappling with right now.
And guess what? I'm about to offer you an immediate way to bid farewell to all your problems! Intrigued? Ready to dive in? Let me tease you a bit more: I've got a method that can make your problems vanish like mist in the morning sun. And guess what? It won't cost you a dime – no strings attached.
That issue currently hijacking your thoughts, robbing you of peace, and driving you up the wall? Well, it's about to vanish like a snow pile on a sunny day.
Let's dive in. Brace yourself for the ultimate problem remedy:
GET A BIGGER PROBLEM!
Yes, that's the secret.
Just GET A BIGGER PROBLEM!
The ancient Stoics, those masters of perspective, knew this art well. Think of "Memento Mori," the Latin phrase that gently prods us to remember our own mortality, urging us to relish each day. Marcus Aurelius went even further, nudging us to live every day as if it's our last. Wake up with "Memento Mori" in your heart, radiating gratitude.
Back in 1961, my mother, then 44, birthed a concept after my father's passing at 48. She truly understood the lesson and handed it down to us. She learned it the hard way, as one morning my dad simply didn't wake up. She called it "Fixable and Unfixable Problems." There are problems with solutions and those without. If it's fixable, don't squander time on anger, fear, or frustration. "Just a sweater, Jimmy, we can replace it." "Dinged your car? It's repairable." "Lost a game? There's another game to win." It's all about mastering the art of Problem Perspective (PP).
So, the next time a trivial hiccup messes with your vibe, deploy the Stoic tactic. Ponder a car accident that never materialized, a life that was spared, or a catastrophe that was averted. "Memento Mori."
Today, someone gifted you 84,600 seconds of life. That's 1,140 minutes simply to breathe. Still nursing that grudge against an undercooked cheeseburger? Remember, you were meant to exit this world in your sleep last night. But the cosmos decided to extend your journey. So go on, celebrate – you're alive!
Just a coach's reminder before this big game today starts!

From up on top of the Palisade Head just north of Silver Bay, MN. From the top of this cliff it's almost 300 feet straight down to the shoreline of Lake Superior. It's looks like I'm standing close to the edge, but no way Jose. I'm standing about 15 feet away with one arm wrapped around a sturdy tree.

James Rose Center
James Rose was an iconoclastic landscape architect who, quite improbably, built his modern house and garden on a small plot in Ridgewood. It is featured in several of his books and today serves as the headquarters of The James Rose Center for Landscape Architectural Research and Design. Courtesy of the James Rose Center
