New RHS School Start Time Begins
Ridgewood High School opens its doors at 8:20AM during this upcoming school year. The students by all accounts approve of this new start time. The school day now ends at 3:05PM.
The Latter School Starting Time (LSST) policy at RHS is monitored, not just by local educators & healthcare professionals, who have added to the collective research on the topic for over 12 years, but by state legislators & school districts across these United States.
The initial feedback from everybody connected with the school will be of interest to researchers & alumni alike. My hunch is that all will go well and early school starting times for teenagers will become just a memory.

The city was quite when I took this...there really was no sound just the clank of my camera hitting up against the glass when I took this.
Shot on 6th Avenue just south of 34th street looking north.

And just like that our house is empty except for our third kid, Seamus (sigh) who will turn 14 this academic year.
Chloe Sara is a Senior who is so ready for everything that comes with this year. Moving her in today was hard since we had an exceptionally good summer filled with lots of talks, walks, self-care, shopping and of course some excellent adventures. Often, I remind my kids how lucky they are with respect to their path but today I told her Lawrenceville is the luckiest school to have her. Liam is now a sophomore at Colgate, playing soccer and learning lots at a liberal arts college (Lafayette friends) which I simply love especially when he calls to talk about his classes or anything else. This summer with Liam was filled with so much goodness and fun plus lots of cooking and chatting. While Liam is gone this fall, Mike and I will follow his season, kind of like parent groupies and for that I feel incredibly blessed that my weekly calendar still has his name in it.
Empty nesting is hard, it's quiet (other than Seamus' snoring), it's weird and yet it is all good. The kids are happy and that of course makes all of it softer. Mike and I are trying to lean into the good side of time to ourselves and a clean house but that may take a bit longer because we both prefer a full house.
Best of luck to all my empty nest friends and please know we are available for any and all adventures.... heck if you want to sleep over, make a mess, throw a lot of towels all over the place or just sit and talk about how good although weird all of this is, we are here. Seamus included.

High School Opens
As September rolls in, here's a little historic fun fact. In September of 1895 this Ridgewood landmark opened as the High School. It is now the Education Center. This image can be found in Picturesque Ridgewood, an illustrated brochure showing various buildings in the Village.
