RHS Homecoming Weekend 2023
One of the best, new events introduced by the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) is Homecoming Weekend. This year it is October 6-8.
While the Homecoming Weekend event is still in its infancy, it does bring to mind past, grand events sponsored by the RHSAA. Who can forget the 125th RHS Anniversary party held at Veteran’s Field in 2017?
The RHS Walking Tour will show everyone the new additions to the campus, including the individual class gifts.

The quote says,
"It only takes one key to unlock the palace door." - Dr. Rob Gilbert
One key.
One moment, even three seconds, can change everything.
Awareness, or being mindful, means you're alert.
You're alive, not asleep with your eyes open.
These keys can appear at any time, through your own actions or serendipitous accidents that the universe mysteriously throws your way. It might be one class, one book, one quote, or one podcast. A single walk, trip to the gym, haircut, or phone call. A drive to the beach, a good laugh, a refreshing shower, or a shift in perspective from problem to possibility.
They are all small keys that unlock a state of mind, originating from a feeling. Feelings stem from thoughts, and palace doors lock when we suddenly slip into a mood. In Yoga, we use the term Shaktipat - the transfer of energy from one person to another. We've all been there, surrounded by someone or people in a negative state. Our empathy awakens, and suddenly, like an unplanned magic trick, we may feel their pain. Conversely, others can uplift us just by being in their presence; we feel their vibrations and energy.
The teachers I've spoken to over the past two weeks possess an incredible magic wand, a potent power source that can unlock doors in one class or, on the negative side, shut open doors. Carol Dweck, in her book "Mindset," talks about the power of believing that there's nothing you can't learn; you just haven't learned it yet. "Yet" is her key word. Maybe we haven't discovered these keys yet, but through practice, diligence, grit, and strategic awareness, suddenly, that door will open.
These keys can come from unexpected places, and we must be willing to look outside the box. Keys that worked last year may suddenly seem impotent today. The magic lies in not looking too hard, in not forcing it too much. Discoveries often occur when you're not actively seeking them, when you're just being. All of a sudden, perhaps when the universe deems it's time, a new idea, a new person, or a new feeling shows up like an unexpected knock on the door from a friend.
Remember, it only takes one key to unlock the palace door. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly three times, and let it happen.
