Online All The Time
I'm online all the time. How about you?
I’m not talking about walking down the street with my eyes glued to my I-phone. It’s a much more subtle experience. A long career in computer networking & cybersecurity leaves it hard for me not to see networks everywhere, which leaves me feeling like I am always online.
This is fine for me though your mileage may vary. I would suggest to try thinking about online activity as something normal and in need of limits, especially when it comes to children. The use of smart-phones in classrooms, is one such limitation.
Maybe if we explained these bans in terms of ettiquette: it’s rude to multi-task when the teacher is presenting a lesson or a classmate is speaking. It is an old-fashioned sounding idea but a good model for schools. I like to think of it as part of the Ridgewood High School Tradition of Excellence.
We could always listen to the people promoting the denigration of the internet, and saying our children need a digital detox. This practice has failed repeatedly and will fail again because online is where it's all happening today.

As the sun rises over the big city...two cyclists fight back and forth for position and ultimately their rightful piece of the pie.

Tales From The Wood…
Once again I'd like to thank whoever did this. I assume it was someone from West Side.
It took very little effort to plant a few perennial seeds in some parking space dividers across Monroe from GW and every year they brighten up an otherwise mundane space. A gift that keeps on giving.
I took these pics a few years ago walking to and from the fireworks. Last week I noticed they'd gone to seed and died so I broke off a few branches. Lavender was Mom's favorite color. Maybe I'll plant her a remembrance garden next spring. At West Side Presbyterian Church Ridgewood, NJ.
