Coach Years' 500th Win!
RHS 1966 graduate Jeff Yearing recorded his 500th coaching victory this month. There were moments in the past few years when we might have been concerned if he would reach this career highlight. No more! Now we now look forward to his 600th Win as a coach.
It is with great respect that we mention that Coach Years had some physical difficulties at the end of his RHS Coaching career. He had to deal with his aging body. Once it was accustomed to doing extraordinary things, then suddenly Jeff was unable to climb a single riser on a step. This is how athletic careers usually close, whether they are RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame members like Jeff yearing, or your standard high school student-athlete.
Jeff discovered, as we all do, that the life of an athlete, so long built into the neat agenda of practice, can suddenly spin idly and dully out of our control. It takes a great deal of strength & persistence to return to the pitch once you have left it seemingly forever.
Fortunately, for the girls in the Midland Park HS Soccer Program & and the many, many people who call Jeff a friend, Jeff didn’t read the memo about retiring.

Taking a long exposure photo can be a challenge when you forget to bring your tripod along. Especially when your vantage point is from a suspension bridge that swings in the wind or shakes whenever another person walks over it. In this case, I got on my knees and braced my camera against the bridge railing, then waited for the bridge to stop moving, held my breath, and stayed as still as I could for the 2 second exposure.
This is the mouth of the Presque Isle River in the Porcupine Mountains State Park. Right behind me is Lake Superior. I try to visit this spot every time I go to the porkies. It’s a very photogenic scene. Those potholes eroded in the shale are pretty amazing.
