RHS App
The RHS Computer Club has created an smartphone app for students. I scanned the QR Code provided in the RHS Weekly and downloaded the app to my phone.
The RHS App provides a calendar to enter class schedules & teacher names; two sources of stress in the opening days of a school year.
The app also has a place for announcements about club activities, which is updated daily. I especially liked that the app allowed for the increase in the size of the font in the Preferences section.
As apps go this is a highly functional one, without any adornment to distract a person from figuring out where they ought to be.
Bottom Line: the RHS App is a brilliant example of teaching students how-to create useful technology. This RHS App is going to be improved upon by successive cohorts of the RHS Computer Club, and be used in one from or another by generations of students to come. Bravo!

Dog Bites Man
The title of the photo is taken from a conversation I overheard on the bridge when I took this and since the Manhattan bridge is to the left...I guess you can say in relation to the title...the Brooklyn Bridge is the "dog".
Shot west of the west tower looking east.
Time 715am.

Tales From The Wood…
I saw a comment on a post of mine a few days ago. Very sadly, my longtime neighbor Mrs. Gold passed away last week. I'd been thinking about what, if anything I could say about it. I mean, I met her a couple times as a kid, she waved when she saw me.. But I doubt she'd have connected me with that long gone little boy.
I was walking past today and I saw an elderly gentleman I'd seen a few times exit the house walk around the far side. I quickened my pace and caught up to him just before Lincoln. I said, "excuse me" and he replied politely and gave way for me to pass. But when I began to engage him he absolutely recoiled. To say his annoyance was easily discernible would be an understatement. I'm sure he expected me to ask something unreasonable from him.. although interloping between he and his thoughts is cause enough.
I quickly explained that I was a longtime neighbor and just wanted to express my condolences and..
I'd caught him quite off guard. His change in disposition was both immediate and drastic. As with his annoyance before, his despair was readily evident. I got a little emotional too. As coincidence would have it. Its my mother's birthday. So I patted him on the back and that became a hug.. I recall people in several cars stopped at the light looking at us like: What the hell is going on ?
The light then changed and we walked and talked for a piece (one of her daughters was in my class. He recognized my name from my Uncle moving him in '78 and so forth) and when we parted company he looked a lot better and he said he was glad to have met me and he hoped to run into me again. I assured him he would. Really nice guy.
I'm happy to say the grand kids are already there and the house will be staying in their family.

Visit To Ridgewood
Some friends from Class of 1979 and I reminisced once about sleeping in Ridgewood as kids, with our bedroom windows open, and our sensory experience of the wind in the leaves of the trees... now associated with the feeling of safety. This bit is based on a recurring dream experience I am still having.
VISIT TO RIDGEWOOD
Garden in my head
Teems with wild, delicate blooms,
Sweet smell of leaf decay,
Precious rain on the way,
Bees whispering, “Soon.”
Open window by my bed,
Clothes on the chair,
Wind rushes through trees,
and voice of provident breeze
clearly calls, “Sweetheart,” from out there.
Within walls of blessed sleep,
I catch a glimpse of--
Vivid and real, as though just lately—
Childhood feelings of safety,
And she who taught me love.
