RHS Retirees
“Work in this society defines who you are,” says a psychology professor at Touro University who studies retirement. “When you’re retired, you’re a ‘was.’ ”
I understand where the professor is coming from, but don’t share his sentiment. Instead, I feel at a point in my life, mid sixties, where I am about to do my best work.
It is sad that society’s telling its elders, like me, that they are done. Too expensive. Too slow to learn new technology. Too many experiences. Too many questions.
I could go on with the lame excuses, there are plenty more which I’m gratefully unaware of.
What do I call myself? Semi-retired.
Any words employed after this alias are superfluous anyhow. I am a software engineer with a background both broad in scope & deep in knowledge.
My suggestion to my retired classmates, or soon-to-be-retired. is to own your age. Do not take any guff over what people say you are incapable of doing. Instead, be prepared to show them your knowledge & wisdom.
They might not be ready for a full throttle blast of what you have to offer (who is?) Though sooner or later your detractors will come to the realization that they could have saved time and accomplished more if they had just picked the brains of someone like yourself with experiences to share.

Zodiac Of Lucky Charms
As I walked by Rockefeller Center today...I couldn't help but notice a giant, clock-like zodiac display covering the front of Saks Fifth Avenue.
The circle is broken up into eight sections with a deep blue center decorated with all the zodiac signs and a spray of stars, with one big star in the middle.
It's official name is the Carousel of Dreams but if you ask me it reminds me a bit of what the grown up version of a box Lucky Charms might look like - which by the way...is a good thing.
Shot inside Rockefeller Center off the glass of a store front looking east.

A Cup Of Tea On The Commode
A son's multi-tasking adventures of caring for Mom. And he survived to tell the tale. The parent/child role reversal might not have been unique to me, but how I dealt with it was. A Cup of Tea on the Commode chronicles my adventures filling my mother’s last years with love, laughter, and joy. Though not always successful, I came pretty damn close.

The City of Merrill’s 1st Street Bridge is a 3 arch stone bridge that crosses the Prairie River. The Prairie River meets the Wisconsin River about a half mile downstream from here. It’s one of the few remaining stone arch bridges in Wisconsin, and it is the only 3 arch stone bridge remaining in the state. The bridge is 120 years old.
I can stand in this spot and imagine that I'm back home in New Jersey, as this bridge resembles the construction of so many of the older bridges crossing the streams of my boyhood fishing holes back in my home state.
