Big Data R.I.P.
Can we all now admit that we goofed about touting the benefits of private companies collecting & processing large amounts of personal data? Founder of the WWW, Tim Berners-Lee:
as Web companies morphed into giants, they built huge data centers to store vast amounts of user data to work with their application. This is terribly inefficient. It requires having multiple, duplicate monoliths of user data that aren’t even that accurate.
We’ve been hoping since 2012 that technology companies in the Social Media space would keep our data safe. Even as the platforms approached one billion users worldwide.
Chief Technology Officer Bruce Schneier of Inrupt believes, “We should stop expecting them to…because it’s increasingly clear that they don’t, can’t, and won’t.”
…we cannot just rely on industry to take care of this. Self-regulation is a time-honored stall tactic.
Bruce Schneier’s message is that the major mistake of the Internet Age was to give companies ownership of data and not the individuals represented by the data. ((Think medical records.))
Inrupt is working on a solution to privatize data ownership by reversing decades of centralizing data, and de-centralize the data instead. Data would reside in personal data Pods, owned & managed by individuals, using encrypted transport protocols on user-friendly applications.

A Portrait Of A Soldier
On a cold November morning...a Marine stands alone waiting his turn to march alongside his brothers - Semper fidelis.
Shot through the thick plastic window of a tent in Madison Square Park just before the start of the Veteran's Day Parade.
Time 745am.

Tales From The Wood…
Kings Pond's Falls. Battered and broken and more beautiful than ever.
We spent countless hours fishing here, wading along it's banks and playing in the woods above it and below the crest of houses on Mountain Avenue. To be able to leap across its 2 waterfalls was a test of courage and athletic prowess for us grade schoolers. I'd imagine it's even more so now, although only a truly foolhardy person would attempt to do so... Man, woman or child.

A Cup Of Tea On The Commode, a memoir
If you dropped everything to care for your ailing mother for 3.5 years 24/7, what would you do after that? Mark Steven Porro, an actor and snack food company owner, was in that precise situation and after mom passed, he retired and moved to his dream destination, Pezenas, in the South of France. The city dates back to the 16th Century and is known for its art and history. Follow Mark’s relocation to this French jewel on Episode 161 of Retire There with Gil & Gene.
