Favorite Presidents
We honor all of our Presidents in February with a Federal Holiday. We used to do this with two holidays, one for Lincoln & one for Washington. The true beauty of the holidays was that we celebrated them on the actual day of the president’s birth. This used to scramble the school schedule and make for two weeks with less than five days of classes.
It took the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968 to end this mayhem in school schedules. Connecticut is one of the few states that still celebrates February 12th as Lincoln’s Birthday.

The Orange Honey Locust Experience
I stepped out of the shop to shovel the snow and as I looked up...I saw the seed pods of a Honey Locust tree clinging on to the snow that had just recently stopped falling and with the orange brick building across the street...I had what I will call my first and perhaps only orange honey locust experience.

James Stroker
Hope Coach
Yesterday‘s book signing offered some memorable moments.
Ali, dream or vision is to create and be a model that she never saw growing up.
A model of an adult hero with wheels, vibrant alive and embracing their challenge and even becoming better because of it.
A challenging task but pictures like this validate the fact that this dream is actually happening.
Amor Fati
The love of fate!
Jim Schoneman
Rock Hound
A water washed and rounded piece of Jacobsville Sandstone sits on top of a cedar driftwood log. They both ended up on the same south shore of Lake Superior beach, although I suspect that a human had something to do with them coexisting so nicely.

Cucina
We may have returned from Barcelona, but that just means we can start incorporating some of their local food lessons into our normal meal rotation.
Paella is an interesting twist on the Italian risotto that has long graced our table. The key difference is the depth of the rice and resisting any urge to stir once all is in the pan. We’ll continue to hone our technique, and welcome the opportunity to share. Let us know when you are in the neighborhood and have an hour to kill.

You’re Saying It Wrong
Ross & Kathy’s podcast: You're Saying It Wrong is a podcast that looks at what we get wrong—and what we sometimes get right—when it comes to this English language.

Zabriskie-Schedler Park Project
Please be advised that the plans for the Zabriskie-Schedler Park Project are moving forward.
Today, the Village of Ridgewood submitted an application to the State Historic Preservation Office and the Historic Sites Council regarding this long-awaited project.
The application seeks approval for a multipurpose public park to be built on the site, which is consistent with the intention of park development when the Village purchased the property in 2009. We are confident this application balances our need for additional recreational and athletic space while maintaining the historical element of the Zabriskie House.

Note: For an optimal experience, view the application on a laptop or desktop computer, rather than a smartphone.
