Slow & Steady
You might expect that a former RHS harrier would advocate for career education instruction filled with anecdotal evidence for high school students about the value long-term thinking. You would be correct too.
I had this lesson hammered home during my junior year at RHS. My first Cross Country practice with RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame (RHS HOF) coach Larry Coyle showed me that if I wanted to thrive in this highly competitive atmosphere I would have to think deeply about how the middle & the end of a run might look. Coach Coyle taught us that a running race, however long or filled with horrendous weather, wasn’t about who got the best start but about how you faced an entire race. He trained us to picture a positive end result in our minds and this freed us to. run like banshees through blinding rain storms.
In retrospect running is exactly like another (RHS HOF) coach is known for saying, “Our sport is every other sport’s punishment.”
The career education advice here remains as it always has been for RHS students & alumni: Continue learning after high school, whether that be college or a vocation. You’ll come to see the value in possessing both. Also, use the Internet to stay informed & be in touch with the people who knew you when you were young. They’ll be more supportive than you can imagine!

Our little piece of waterfront that God is allowing us to take care of for awhile. There's a house back there somewhere, but it's hard to see from the river. We planned it that way. We may own the land, but the river belongs to everyone.

Ridgewood Water Update
Four granular activated carbon vessels were recently delivered to Ridgewood Water's Wortendyke PFAS Treatment Facility in Midland Park. This facility is on schedule to become operational next year. By December of 2026, all 12 of Ridgewood Water's PFAS Treatment Facilities will be up and running and all regulated PFAS compounds will be at undetectable in treated water. Ridgewood Water continues to be ahead of other water companies around the nation when it comes to PFAS treatment.
