Taking Heroes Seriously
I’d like to suggest some changes to the RHS Alumni Association annual selection process for RHS Distinguished Alumni. It was brilliant of the RHSAA to make the award an annual affair. Every returning class could easily have one member among them deserving of recognition. The number of alumni being feted as “Distinguished” could be raised to between 8 and 12.
These alumni could come from a set number of career categories: Law, Medicine, Sciences, the Arts, Media… In other words the same categories currently being employed. Though this additional designation might help answer the age old question of what a particular person was known for.
Lastly, I suggest the nomination procedure be expanded to include written, oral, and electronic nominations, while at the same time making answers for the current voluntary guidelines.
Also, why can’t a survey of alumni be used to select at least one or two of the winners? Remember we are high school alumni. Popularity contests are still the rule of the day for both current & former students.
Seriously, the best people to promote Ridgewood High School and its Tradition of Excellence are its alumni. Asking them their thoughts about classmates annually just seems like the sensible thing to do.

The Morning Clouds Be Different
I decided to walk to work this morning - it took about an hour but along the way...I stopped in Washington Square and thought to myself that the morning clouds be different than the other clouds and I'm happy they are - I yes...my inside voice speaks like that - we don't waste time with grammer when we are waxing poetic between the wax of my ears.
Shot inside the fountain on a cold, windy morning looking north with cherry blossom pedals scattered about and the Empire State building in the distance.

Here I Am
It’s been a tough season. I honestly have wanted to hide and not share anything about my life.
But these are the moments that I need to practice what I preach and have the courage to be vulnerable. This past January I had a miscarriage that surprised me and knocked me off my feet. Then a month later I lost a job that meant so much to me. I had thought I knew what the future would hold and in 30 days was brought to my knees with grief and confusion.
I’m taking the next 30 days to do a self care project/promise/experiment! I’m curious as to what will happen and where this next season will take me. Right now, I’m CHOOSING (because damn I definitely don’t want) to put myself out there in a scary time. I don’t know what’s next and I want to say HERE I AM.
Kelly Sue Martin
Class of 1996
Good afternoon, RHS Class of 1996. This is Kelley Sue Martin here and this picture was taken when I was on holiday during Easter weekend at Delray Beach Florida. I miss all of you.
RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame
I had the pleasure of a fantastic reunion luncheon with three incredible women and friends that I have known since their high school days over 32 years ago.
We celebrated and reminisced about the incredible success they had as players and champions at the high school, collegiate and international levels of competition ( Ridgewood HS, University of Va. Alabama, University of Del. and Jersey United Int SC).
So proud of the incredible woman each of them has become!

RHS Arrow
The Online Home For RHS Arrow Yearbooks
The Arrow Yearbooks from 1898 through the 2021 are now online. This collaboration between the Ridgewood High School & the Ridgewood Public Library is inspired by Jeff Yearing, who has long used the Arrow Yearbooks as a reference for deliberations regarding potential RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame inductees.
Mark Porro
Arrived in bookstores everywhere on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023. Mark has been awarded numerous literary awards for his memoir.

Village Capital Budget
The 2025 Village Capital Budget continues to put an emphasis on recreational and facilities maintenance. The new ADA playground at Habernickel Park will also be supplemented by a State grant, additional sun shades will be added to Graydon Pool after the loss of a large tree, and our Recycling and Parks garage will see upgrades, as will the Public Library.
