Sixteen-Year-Old Voters
It’s surprising to me that a generation disinclined to pursue a drivers’ license with the same zeal of my generation wouldn’t substitute another touchstone to indicate they are growing into adulthood. Maybe we ought to be removing legal obstacles to voting and be encouraging greater participation at a younger age. I favor lowering the Voting Age to enfranchise 16-year-olds. It’s time to recognize the hypocrisy of allowing teenagers behind the wheels of cars before they are allowed to vote.
This same experiment in Civics was recently done in Board of Education elections in Newark. Students voted at a slightly higher rate than adults. What might have happened if 16-year-olds were allowed to vote in elections held in November is something we ought to make happen.
I asked pediatrician Anne Robinson her thoughts on 16-year-old-voters:
As you know, I am all for students' voices being heard in every aspect of their education. They are the ones in the classroom observing what works and what doesn't. Studies have shown that students are spot on in identifying best practices and coming up with ideas for changes that impact learning, motivation, and relationships.
By involving students in the process of their own education they become invested in it which can only lead to good things.

Not knowing there was a 5K race through the park today...I luckily got here just in time to get one photo off before the race began - I think the runners thought I was the "rabbit" as I ran ahead of the pack to get to the spot just before they did and when they did...they did by the thousands...who knew and who has the answer as to why...enlighten me!!!
This is number 5 in my series of lens ball photos of NYC - so far I have the World Trade Center, Times Square, Radio City and the Brooklyn Bridge - number 6 soon to follow - I'm hoping you like these.

Tales From The Wood…
RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame
According to Jeff Yearing, Class of 1966:
The revised HOF window. We noticed that we hadn't included skiing (lower right) in our original plan. This is now an interscholastic sport at RHS. Also note that girls flag football, now a recognized interscholastic sport, is included (lower right) and also rowing. Rowing is still a club sport at RHS, but is also recognized as an interscholastic sport by the state, so the club team also represents RHS at times. This how ice hockey operated for many years until it was fully recognized as an interscholastic sport. Tim Boucher (RHS 1988) and his company BSquared donated the revision on the window.

The Online Home For RHS Arrow Yearbooks
The Arrow Yearbooks from 1898 through the 2021 are now online. This collaboration between the Ridgewood High School & the Ridgewood Public Library is inspired by Jeff Yearing ‘66, who has long used the Arrow Yearbooks as a reference for deliberations regarding potential RHS Athletic Hall Of Fame candidates.

The centerpiece of Homecoming Weekend on 18 October 2025, the Distinguished Alumni Ceremony honors graduates who have made meaningful contributions to society through their personal endeavors, professional achievements, talents, and community service.
As part of this annual celebration, each inductee, or their representative, receives a Distinguished Alumni Award, and has their name permanently in the dedicated commemorative space at Ridgewood High School’s original front entrance.

Rock Hound
Our favorite (secret) little patch of Lake Superior beach has turned into a rock garden. The water level has gone down two feet in just the last couple of years. In another few years it'll be right back up to where it's been 1,000 times before. The mysterious circle of life. Sometimes there is no human rhyme or reason.
Willie Geist
Today Show Honorees
On Willie Geist 's Sunday morning show 4 RHS grads were recognized on his segment mugshots (they hold the yellow coffee mugs from his show that they order). The four in the picture are Dr. Andy Bowe ( RHS 68) lower keft) Rick Bowe ( RHS 70) Upper left, two middle persons not RHS grads, seated right with RHS shirt Ken Ruhl ( RHS 67) and far right Randy Douglass ( RHS 67).
The Bowe Brothers were outstanding wrestlers at RHS and UPenn. Ken was an excellent football player and baseball player at RHS and Randy was an outstanding 3 sport athlete at RHS ( Football, Wrestling, Baseball). The picture was taken off of Martinique on their annual sailing excursion to the Caribbean.
